We call on France to exercise restraint when dispersing the freedom fighters on the streets of Paris. These brave warriors for justice must receive immediate humanitarian aid, and their safety must be guaranteed in accordance with international law. Failure to comply will leave us no choice but to bring a case before the ICJ, in close cooperation with that renowned champion of human rights, Afghanistan.

The europoor meme can be funny, but it's also midwit and wrong. As someone with both EU and US passports who's lived in both sets of elite poles (SF/NYC and BCN/BER/PAR), let me just give you the TLDR: -The percent of GDP spent on welfare in the US is the about the same as the EU (smidge under). -The effective tax rate in the coastal US is about the same as the EU (smidge under). -Both are (former) middle-class societies where much of society feels the social contract is broken. In the US, elites abandoned the middle-class decades ago, and the well-to-do in states like CA/NY have reconciled themselves to paying almost half their paychecks and getting nothing in return, planning to insulate themselves from the suck by paying for private everything: neighborhoods, schools, medical care. If their earnings keep on rising, they're OK with it. In France, that bourgeoisie hasn't been decimated yet, and they still expect (delusionally perhaps) basic social infra like schools to function (which is what these protests were initially about). The infra in Europe is a lot better than in the US, despite the GDP delta (New Yorkers can only dream of a subway like Madrid's). But that's clearly eroding in time, without the wage growth (or private social infra) to allow for a paid workaround. -The free healthcare blah blah meme is fake: the public health systems in Europe have collapsed to the point it's mostly a public/private hybrid, for anyone with a solid paycheck, and fuck you if you're poor, go to the public system (which is the ER in the US). Guess what? In Europe you've got deductibles, in/out of network and all the same shit as in the US (though yes, the cost is still lower, though more or less correlated with wages). -Boomers on both sides of the Atlantic are living in a dated lala land, but they vote to keep the system in place. In Europe it's legislation and printing money to prop up pensions; in the US, it's legislation and printing money to prop up housing prices and the stock market, which is the American 'free market' version of pensions. Rampant inflation and cost-of-living problems in both, with youth locked out of housing and living in precarity. -Both are struggling with having been historically middle-class societies US better positioned only because it has more economic growth (hello 80 hour weeks), and (obviously) leadership in critical fields like AI. But the foundational problems of an out-of-touch elite, incoherent immigration policy, and general social malaise that sees no meaning or purpose at the End of History is absolutely the same in both polities. Americans who mock what's happening in Europe simultaneously believe some X mirage about what Europe is (and have never lived there), as well as don't understand what's going on in their own country. The French Revolution happened a few years after the American one, and once again, the two countries are echoes of each other, as similar countries tend to be. France is probably the most 'American' country in Europe, in all the republican senses of the word (and no the Yookay isn't in Europe).
Dude, the same shit happened in the US a few years ago. Europe is just downstream of the US here. And the aggrieved master's degree people attending communist dinners you're talking about are found in even more abundance in Bushwick than in Oberkampf.

Totally insane levels of corruption and abuse of power are swirling all around us and my sense is that as angry as voters are about the cost of living they mostly are so awash in cynicism about politics that they don’t understand how egregious Trump is.
Billions of dollars’ worth of contracts predicting oil would fall and the S&P 500 would rise were placed about 15 minutes before Trump announced a U-turn on Iran in a post on Truth Social. CFTC staff began to investigate-- then were told to lay off. bloomberg.com/news/features/…

“when Israeli military actions led captors to kill their hostages.” Nasty work from CNN. I’m not sure “Israel should have known if they tried to rescue civilian hostages, we’d happily slit their throats or use them as human shields” is quite the exoneration they think it is.
Replying to @JDiamond1
We found 24/40 deaths can be traced back to Israeli military actions. That includes direct IDF strikes/gunfire, but also when Israeli military actions led captors to kill their hostages. That's not just us saying that: the IDF has acknowledged that in many of these cases /2

I hope the images of Zohran Mamdani having people who claim to be pro-Palestine screaming at him in public and calling him a traitor for attending an October 7th vigil will finally wake people up to what I have been warning about for years.

On a day of profound pain for so many New Yorkers, disrupting a vigil for the victims of October 7 while waving the flags of terrorist organizations is absolutely despicable. Jewish New Yorkers deserve to mourn in peace, free from hatred and intimidation. There is no excuse for this. None.

Is Reuters implying the October 7 anniversary is an anniversary of an attack on Gaza? Isn’t this like having a live view of Tokyo on December 7 on the anniversary of Pearl Harbor or Kabul on 9/11?

The 7 October attacks were a barbaric act of terror. Today, we stand with Israel in remembering every life taken and destroyed at the hands of the Hamas terrorists. Our thoughts are with the victims, the survivors, their families and all those who continue to carry the pain of that terrible day. We must firmly reject any form of antisemitism across Europe. Jewish communities must be able to live openly, safely and without fear. Hamas brought unspeakable suffering to the Israeli people and left devastation in its wake. Hamas must disarm so that the Gaza Peace Plan to move forward.

Still vividly remember this video of the Hamas fighter beheading a random Thai farm worker and celebrating. Also remember people then denying this atrocity, even as it was filmed and proudly broadcast by the Hamas militants themselves.
Just saw the full video of the 2 Hamas fighters arguing over who gets to kill the Thai worker they had shot followed by one of them decapitating him. It’s worse than you imagine. They filmed it themselves. They wanted the world to know this is who they are.

I went outside between the sirens. We watched the interceptions. We heard the rumors. I religious man in a tallit and IDF uniform got into his car - on Shabbat, on Simchat Torah. A neighbor I had never met before, a woman easily in her 70s said, "This is what it was like on Yom Kippur. Men left the synagogues to fight. I was left with my baby at home alone. It was terrifying." The sirens rang again. I asked her to come to my house so she wasn't alone. She told me she didn't want to be inside. She couldn't be closed in. Even with emergency radios reporting, we had no idea what was happening. Whispers of terrorists in trucks in the kibbutzim were laughed off as preposterous. "Impossible", we said. Only after Shabbat did we get reports of 120 dead. I fell to the floor. Slowly, the extent of the massacre - and the failures of the system - emerged from the fog. Terrorists roamed our towns for days. People were missing... kidnapped? Burned to death? Lying unidentified in roads clogged with shells of vehicles? A surreal nightmare. Hostages. Images we cannot unsee. Children taken. Grandmothers stolen. Women raped, abused, tortured and killed. War. Casualties. Widows. Bereaved parents. The government, security apparatus failed. The people of Israel stood up. We made sandwiches for those who lost their homes, picked the fields of farmers who lost their workers, cooked for the soldiers who defended our people. The nation of Israel lives. But the nation of Israel is hurting. Trauma. Pain. Division. We owe it to them to do better.

Three years after the catastrophic day Hamas unleashed on Israelis and on the Palestinian people in Gaza, the majority of the “pro-Palestine” industrial complex still refuses to utter a single word of condemnation or assign any responsibility to the Islamist terror group that destroyed the Gaza Strip and triggered the most calamitous chapter in modern Palestinian history. Today alone, I have seen dozens of posters and announcements for rallies, protests, and a so-called “week of rage.” Endless groups across the Western world, including the United States, whether community-based, campus-based, nonprofit, or cultural, are celebrating and commemorating “three years of resistance and genocide.” In almost comical language, many declare October 7 as the beginning of genocide in Gaza while making no mention of the bloodshed, murder, beheadings, torture, mutilation, burning people alive, executions, sexual assault, and hostage taking that initiated the disaster which befell the Palestinian people. It is as if Israeli and Jewish lives are invisible. As if civilians were not slaughtered in their homes while they slept. As if partygoers were not massacred. As if the attack was not entirely unprovoked while a ceasefire was in place between Israel and Hamas. It is a complete erasure of cause and effect and a refusal to grasp that choices and actions produce consequences. I have yet to see a mainstream Arab, Palestinian, or Muslim American organization, let alone prominent “pro-Palestine” academics, journalists, community groups, or notable individuals, issue a statement acknowledging Hamas’s responsibility and culpability for the devastation inflicted on Gaza. Even within the imbalance of power and the overwhelming suffering caused by Israeli decisions, there is still ample space to acknowledge the humanity of Israeli victims and the injustice of what happened to them. More importantly, there is immense space to speak honestly about the horrendous damage caused to Palestinians by the Jihadi fascism of Hamas, which has devastated Gazans over the two decades of its rule. Three years later, Israelis, Jews, and Zionists are commemorating the anniversary while engaging in introspection, critique, and calls for accountability for leaders, security services, and other political players. In contrast, instead of using the grim third anniversary of October 7 to learn and evolve, significant elements of the “pro-Palestine” industrial complex remain one of the most embarrassing and backward hate-driven movements in contemporary political activism. This is not a real pro-Palestine movement. It is a virulent anti-Israel bloc built on ignorance, mob mentality, open sympathy for terrorism, and sabotage of the Palestinian people’s legitimate pursuit of freedom and prosperity. Its regressive and poisonous rhetoric will not evolve into anything constructive. It should be treated with contempt, stripped of relevance, and isolated until it collapses and makes room for a serious effort that actually cares about Palestinians rather than the fantasies of wannabe revolutionaries.

I have officially resigned from the Green Party and will currently sit as an independent Cllr A statement to the people of Waterloo Today I have made the incredibly difficult decision to resign from the Green Party. As things stand, I will now sit as an Independent councillor for Waterloo. I'm 23. I grew up here, walked these streets as a little boy and couldn't be prouder to now represent the community I call home. I didn't get into politics for a career or a party badge. I got into it to help people and make my community better. At Green Party Conference, a motion was passed declaring Zionism a form of racism and committing the party to oppose it. I had serious concerns about what this could mean for Jewish members. Being Jewish does not make someone a Zionist. Jewish people hold many different views on Israel and Zionism. An amendment was put forward saying members should not be pressured or disciplined simply because they attend or are connected to Jewish institutions such as synagogues or community centres. It also sought to ensure Jewish members weren't punished for views that wouldn't see non-Jewish members punished. I voted for it. It was rejected. I then voted against the final motion. I saw Jewish members in tears afterwards. I won't forget that. I came back to Waterloo knowing I couldn't look residents in the face and defend something I believe is wrong. I will always stand up for Palestinian freedom and speak out against the actions of the Israeli Government. But I can do that while standing with our Jewish community against antisemitism. We must be able to do both. I fear the Green Party is heading to a very dark place. I cannot follow it there. If that means my political career ends at 23, so be it. I'm not leaving Waterloo. I'll still be here, taking up your casework, fighting your corner and doing everything I can for the community I love.

The far left sees October 7th—the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust—not as an occasion to mourn the 1,200 Israelis murdered in an act of terror but as an occasion to romanticize the mass murder of Jews as “resistance.” The inevitable consequence of glorifying political violence is political violence itself. That is the dangerous direction in which American politics seems to be heading.

Just curious, for the purported normies who insist the anti-Zionist radicals aren’t pro-terrorism, what is the best argument you can make in defense of holding a “resistance” rally on 10/7? And if you can’t make one, what’s the best case for why people shouldn’t judge politicians and activists who refuse to condemn this?

I've never understood why Free Palestine people want to go down the road of "in practice." In what world is Zionism inherently racist "in practice," but Palestinian nationalism, that motivated countless terror attacks, wars, and the Hamas massacre on October 7th, isn't?

Imagine if, on the anniversary of Hiroshima, Americans marched past Japanese communities waving American flags and denouncing Japan. Or if Britain chose the anniversary of Dresden to stage victory marches through London. We don’t. Those dates are treated with sensitivity because whatever your view of the wider war, the anniversary of mass civilian death is not the day to celebrate. Yet on 7 October — the anniversary of the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust — demonstrators have deliberately chosen to march through London for the Palestinian cause. They do it, simply, because they are utterly repugnant human beings
