Felt very much yesterday how I felt when I was abandoned in the early summer of '99 by a now-famous Plath scholar. It happened in Washington DC and my only refuges were bookshops, the National Gallery of Art and nature. Get yourself back, then proceed...
I won't be on here tomorrow for obvious reasons. Good night, and good luck:

NEW: Good news for Londoners, visitors and businesses: the planned tube strikes for this Thursday and next week have been suspended. This shows the difference that engaging with our trade unions makes.

Transcendent. Music written on the 159 bus on the way home from Ronnie Scott's to Streatham, and performed by a saxophonist whom my father knew #Lambeth #Glasgow
music is emotional…it hits the nerve or it passes you by…starless and bible black by The Stan Tracey Quartet…is beyond beautiful to me…the second you are pulled in…you are not coming out…the minimal atmosphere and the mist without algorithms…the slow intimacy of the piano and the saxophone…the dialogue and interplay between the double bass and the drums…the delicious ecstasy of melancholy…

I am devastated and heart broken over the loss of Quincy Jones. He changed music and with that he changed the world. He inducted Public Enemy into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is already greatly missed. And he is even more loved. My deepest sympathies to his family. 🙏🏾

Folklore then. Taylor Swift's 8th album is brilliant. That's it. I don't have much else to add. It stands up to almost anything I've heard this century yet could come from 30, 40, 50 years ago. I'm not going to tell you all "you must hear this". I'm just so glad I found it.
Maybe on Radio 2 just now they're also talking about dancing around the bonfire with your besties to uplifting chart entries by ELO or Steps.
This morning on Radio 3 they're wondering if we'll be dancing around the bonfire tonight. I've never seen anybody do this in my life, what kind of world do they think we inhabit, are they on drugs?
I don't want to go all Alan Green on this but actually yes I do. This is like gobbing on Radio 3. Also, who the hell wants to "unwind" at six in the morning? Night shift workers?
BBC Radio 3 Unwind launches on BBC Sounds this morning, Monday 4th November at 6am with presenters including Edith Bowman and AFRODEUTSCHE. radiotoday.co.uk/2024/11/edi…
Listening to it right now. What music radio ought to be like.

One day, @BBCRadio3 will play some serialist/12-tone music again. Until then, @BBCRadio4 makes the case for Schoenberg in this sweet programme, which makes a very good case for the music he pioneered bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0022k…
Just heard Norman Jay playing this on Soho Radio, as he did on BBC Radio London in the early noughties. No one wrote about this masterpiece at the time except me. How influential has it proven to a subsequent generation of musicians?:
