Dr. @DPoscablo from the @Forsberg_Lab led this study showing that aging leads to two parallel platelet specification paths from #HSCs and the shortcut platelet pathway is perpetuated by highly expansive #megakaryocyte progenitors.

Platelets are normally produced from HSCs via progressively lineage-restricted, intermediate progenitors including MkPs. We find an aging-induced and direct pathway from HSCs into platelets - by way of functionally enhanced MkPs- that contributes to exacerbated clot formation!
