Innoventions isn’t quite dead yet. You can still enter the remains of the West building to meet Mickey & Friends, where remnants are almost instantly noticeable. This wall used to hold glass panes with Innoventions exhibit logos on them, the brackets of which are still here.

While often overlooked due to not holding a major attraction, IBM has gone down as both Innoventions’ longest running sponsor and one of Epcot’s longest running sponsors. Clocking in at 21 years, IBM backed Epcot longer than other major sponsors such as GE and Siemens.

IBM held an exhibit in Innoventions West from Opening Day to Closing Day. Adjacent to Sega’s original massive display was their first exhibit, followed by “Solutions for a Small Planet” in 1998-1999. Then came the IBM Thinkplace from 2002-2009, their longest running exhibit.

If you head into the Character Meet & Greet area occupying part of the former Innoventions West area, you may see floor tiles that stand out from the others. These are where the lines on the “Road to Tomorrow” used to lie, which were removed and replaced with new shiny tiles.

Extinct Innoventions East exhibits. Two of these are still standing, and one is still structurally familiar from the outside. Care to take some guesses as to which is which?

More lights have been turned on in Sum Of All Thrills (as of yesterday 6/18) Looks like they even may have begun dismantling or messing around with some of the simulators.

On May 19th, 2015, Innoventions West completely, permanently closed. What used to host The Great Piggy Bank Adventure, Where's The Fire? and more, were left to sit and collect dust behind construction walls. Innoventions East still remains open, for now, with Colortopia.

Behind the current abandoned Sum of all Thrills exhibit in the East building lies the remains of an original Epcot attraction, Backstage Magic. A large scale model of EPCOT Center is still mounted to the roof in there to this very day, pictured here. Photo via @Nomeus_Flurbex
