54 years ago today, Congress overrode Nixon's veto to pass the Clean Water Act.
Now Trump's EPA wants federal protection only for wetlands that hold water every single day of the year. NRDC: at least 94% of lower-48 wetlands could lose it.

Florida's Senate race is tightening.
Angie Nixon backs a federal data center moratorium. Her Republican opponent didn't sign onto ratepayer protections until late September.
Help tip it: Climate Phone Bank tomorrow Thurs 10/15, 7–9pm ET, with Council Chair Michelle Deatrick and @FlaDemEnvCaucus

Data centers are on the ballot in Michigan's Senate race.
Democrat Abdul El-Sayed laid out his terms back in January: protect other ratepayers from the costs, protect water and reliability, guarantee community benefits, and follow Michigan's clean energy laws. He supports state and local moratoriums.
Republican Mike Rogers endorsed Trump's plan to fast-track AI infrastructure in March. In August, the same month a poll found 62% of Michigan voters oppose new data centers, he floated a one-year pause.
Abdul led. Mike followed the polls.

Will is one of the strongest environmental champions running for Congress, and Michigan’s 7th District is a swing seat we need to flip from red to blue — and win.
First time canvassing? You’ll get a quick training and a partner. 11 AM–2 PM in Oakland County.

Today is Children's Environmental Health Day.
The EPA's own website says kids "eat more food, drink more water, and breathe more air in proportion to their body weight than adults."
So the safety of that food, water and air is especially important to children - and the EPA promised to fill its children's health committee by March 1. Seven months later, that's an unkept promise.
And while Trump leaves those seats empty, his EPA is rolling back the protections that keep kids safe from mercury and soot in the air and PFAS in their drinking water.

Last call: public comment on rescinding the Roadless Rule closes TODAY 10/6.
For 25 years, the rule has kept logging and new roads out of 45 million acres of national forest. Roads bring fire: wildfires are approx 4x more likely to start near a road than in roadless forest.

ACT. The Roadless Rule protects wildlife, forests and public lands. Rescinding it is likely to cause more human-triggered wildfires - roaded areas have about 4x more fire starts - in remote areas where they're harder to fight.
Trump wants the Rule gone from 45 million acres anyway. Timber, mining and gas companies stand to profit. While people and planet lose.

Mayor Elida Castillo of Taft, Texas, spoke at our Summer Council Meeting in Austin, alongside Daniel Ayala (@DanielAyalaJrTX) of the @TXEnviroDems Texas Environmental Democrats. We loved having these climate champions with us.
Taft sits in the Coastal Bend, where Corpus Christi's reservoirs fell below 8% this spring. Her message to voters:
"Voters, use your voice. At the end of the day, your voice is your power. Use it, because if we're not using it, someone else is telling our narrative for us, and that's not freedom."
Election Day is November 3. Elect Democrats. Elect more people like Elida!
