Excited to share Minerva, our approach using genome language models for biological discovery! Using Minerva, we find that UG27 reverse transcriptase systems encode variable arrays of diverse ncRNAs with a shared structure, each templating a short DNA hairpin. With @garykbrixi.

We found a surprisingly large technical artifact hiding in a widely-used scRNA-seq technology. In all Flex v1 datasets we’ve analyzed, we see hundreds of DE genes between probe set barcodes. More on why this matters and what to do about it below: biorxiv.org/content/10.64898… (1/n)

🚨 New preprint 🚨 We introduce Generative Distribution Embeddings (GDEs) — a framework for learning representations of distributions, not just datapoints. GDEs enable multiscale modeling and come with elegant statistical theory and some miraculous geometric results! 🧵

Finally, plasmids for tinkering with this system will be on Addgene shortly. If you're excited about this technology or just enjoy psychedelia, grab these reagents and do a transfection--within 24 hours you'll be tripping. We're so excited to see where imagination will take you!

Every day, UPS drivers deliver a quarter of the U.S.'s parcels out of trucks without air conditioning. As they vote on whether to authorize a massive strike later this summer, heat has become a crucial sticking point. First story for @washingtonpost: washingtonpost.com/business/…

100 years before Brown vs Board of Education, a 5 year old Black girl Sarah Roberts attempted to go to her elementary school classroom in Boston before being escorted out by a police officer. An article I wrote for The Emancipator on an ideological battle over education.

In college, I started searching for living descendants of the Harvard enslaved. I found 50. All American universities with ties to slavery can find living descendants, and students can lead the charge. If you are/know a student who wants to do this, encourage them to message me.
