We’re back with our girl.
• The tumor is gone.
• Her speech is intact.
Praise God.
Thanks, truly, to all who prayed. We’re not totally out of the woods but an incredible day today, and our hearts are full.
(More details👇 for any who’d like them).
SPEECH • After the surgery, the real question and real risk was language: Does she understand what people are saying immediately? Does she have access to her vocabulary? Can she speak easily? So far, the answer is yes. And we’re overwhelmed with joy.
CLAIRE UPDATE
Brain surgery tomorrow—the big one.
• A maximal resection (IOW removing as much of the irregular tissue as possible).
• They’ll come get her around 6am, and she’ll be in surgery much of the day.
We’re anxious, but hopeful.
Prayer appreciated.
Update
(1) Claire is doing much better 🙏
(2) Tomorrow is a *big* day 🚨
Today—meds calmed seizure and she was extubated late afternoon. Doing much better.
Tomorrow—they’ll map her brain’s function to determine whether they can remove her tumor surgically. Prayer appreciated!
Replying to @DLPatterson
Update:
–Seizures have seemingly stopped
–She’s resting (via heavy sedation).
–She’s intubated as a precaution
We’re not sure what this will mean, how long recovery will be, if it alters game plan, etc. We’ll find out more tomorrow, and appreciate your prayer in the meantime.
For those praying along, Claire had a very sudden, *very big* seizure that went on long enough she had to be sedated and intubated.
Prayers appreciated that the Lord brings her through totally and speedily. This is brutal beyond description to watch. God have mercy.
Prayer appreciated for our beloved Claire, who is having brain surgery right now.
Today, they’ll do a craniotomy to place an electrical grid on her brain to map its function. If that shows a clear path a second surgery will follow days from now to remove the tumor on her brain.
She has an incredible medical team, and God has shown up in a million beautiful ways, not the least of which being our wonderful church.
But right now we’re just parents in a waiting room aching for our daughter, and we appreciate your prayer.
UPDATE.
• Surgery #1 went smoothly. Lots of pain afterwards, but she’s starting to feel a bit better now.
• Focus on next day or two is recovery and pain management.
• Next phase will be mapping her brain to ID exact location of speech center.
Another round of seizures Claire’s at-home rescue meds couldn’t stop.
• Day began with ambulance to local ER.
• Next a helicopter ride to Houston.
She’s stabilized for the most part. We’re awaiting her neurology team’s recommendations for next steps. But prayer appreciated.
Another year of Training Program in the books!
4 years in, we’ve:
• welcomed 473 people into the program
• trained 19 seminary students
• awarded 500 hours of master’s degree credit
• helped train 6 other area local churches
I love every second I get to be a part of this!
An update, for those who’ve been praying for our Claire.
It’s been an exceptionally difficult month post-hospital. But we’re finally starting to stabilize. And we’re headed to Houston this morning to start a series of important tests.
Claire Update.
Unfortunately, not a best-case scenario. It appears Claire has a brain tumor.
Fortunately, she is recovering beautifully, and there is much good news—foremost of which being the tumor is not cancerous.
More details below for those keeping track and praying.
CLAIRE UPDATE (Friday)
1. MRI. Unfortunately not definitive. Need additional time/data make determinations. Not what we were hoping for but ok.
2. Claire. Ventilator removed—much less miserable/more comfortable. Feels like a gift just to be able to have a conversation with her.
Claire update.
PRAYER REQUESTS.
1. MRI on Fri AM. Biggest inflection point helping determine cause/severity of seizures. Praying for clarity, no spots, best of news.
2. Rest for Claire—sedation pre-MRI. She’s terrified/delirious any time she wakes. It’s heartbreaking.
