a lot of people are really scared about Garrets position but this feels a lot like the "dump" after the Greyscale ETP launch than anything to do with Garret
before he showed his full hand today, Garret's liquidiation price was in the high to mid 4000s, no one really thought we were going there anytime soon. especially the larger allocaters who have driven this move (see Ardi's twet below)
ZEC PA today is mimicking other recent parabolic coins (VVV, near) that are also down similar amounts
so more likely we are just seeing some healthy consolidation meanwhile CT is doing its usual hyperventilating

People keep wondering how the $ZEC move continues extending after every pullback.
The latest participant data makes it pretty obvious why.
Mid-sized CVD, representing trades between $10K and $100K, is still printing new highs.
Retail-sized trades below $10K and institutional-sized trades between $100K and $10M are now aggressively buying alongside them.
The last time we covered this data, mid-sized participants were carrying almost the entire rally while everyone else watched from the sidelines.
Now, for the first time during this run, all three cohorts are pushing higher together.
Pretty interesting how the participants who missed most of the rally from $400 are being forced to buy $ZEC above $1,500.
for zcash, privacy is often misunderstood as the end all be all
that certainly serves a clear market segment and is incredibly important
but I posit the more significant part of privacy is its role in enabling a better monetary asset
privacy enables choice, but more importantly it enables the safe haven and fungibility required for a true internet-native SoV
internet-money by default has historical information attached to it which means that one coin may not actually be fungible for another coin (i.e if the Canadian government determines your coins came from those supporting the truckers, they can come after you for years into the future)
i.e the money you receive shouldn't come with the baggage of those who held it before you
cash does not have this problem and is devoid of all information which enables true fungibility and higher liquidity in the limit, and so too must internet-native money have this property
even with gold and other offshore holdings, there's a reason people (used to) put them in Switzerland to take advantage of bank secrecy
but with Zcash, we now scale this to the entire planet. that's the point of tech: scale
now, all you need is an internet connection and a cryptographic keypair to get all these benefits that were only available to a select few
so, even if you're someone who doesn't need the privacy aspect of zcash, it's still foundational for enabling a better monetary asset along with quantum proofing and performance upgrades

I stepped back from Zcash protocol work today. I spent years on the cryptography behind shielded pools, Halo, Orchard, Ironwood, and Tachyon. Zcash is not acting responsibly. It is racing toward planetary-scale, post-quantum private money and gambling with the financial system.

Good info for people who obsess over wallets. I like ZODL app + Keystone hardware.
if you’re new to Zcash, first you need to choose a wallet that you're comfy with.
but to set up a Zcash wallet, you need to understand ZEC addresses. so, what the addresses mean?
it's simple:
if it starts with t, it’s public.
if it starts with z, it’s an older shielded address.
if it starts with u1, it’s a unified address - that’s the modern one. (it can receive privately.)
day one rule: don’t leave a bag sitting on a t-address and call it private, it isn’t.
so now we can talk about wallets 👇

cake can shield ZEC - when ironwood went live, it moved funds for you if you left the app open and synced.

people mention it because it’s one of the few hardware setups that can keep shielded ZEC offline.
you still need a software wallet on top: zodl, vizor or noir.
the device signs, the app talks to the network.
(important: it has to be the cypherpunk firmware, recent enough for ironwood. the normal multi-coin firmware is not the same product. buy the wrong edition and you don’t get the private side.)

if you want ledger shielded, this is one of the paths. (ledger’s own app is transparent-only)
shielded on ledger needs the extra zcash shielded app plus a wallet like zkool, not every ledger model can do that.
PLEASE! NEVER SKIP THESE RULES:
#1 write the seed on paper (not a screenshot).
#2 receive on a unified / shielded address.
#3 if the amount starts to matter, add a keystone (cypherpunk firmware).
#4 only download wallets from official links.
#5 never share your seed phrase: it's like your password.
if you came to zcash for privacy, the wallet is the product - pick one that can actually do shielded, then leave it alone.
