🚨☣️BREAKING: Plague outbreak expands, Russia BSL-3 lab accident - FIVE hospitals now quarantined🚨☣️
The plague outbreak in Siberia, Russia has expanded w/5 hospitals now under QUARANTINE: Irkutsk Hospitals No. 1, No.3, No.10, Ivano-Matreninskaya Children's Hospital, and an unnamed maternity hospital (Lyudi Baikala news, Moscow Times).
Quarantine is NOT voluntary. Even in the U.S., quarantine is among the most extraordinary measures gov't can impose on American citizens who haven't been convicted, or even accused, of committing a crime. Quarantine means being forcibly confined and medically examined by law. U.S. quarantine can be imposed on anyone infected by a legally quarantinable disease listed below (this can change). One should assume Russia's quarantine protocols are even more severe. As of 2026, under Executive Order 14047, legally quarantinable diseases in the U.S. are:
■ Plague
■ Smallpox
■ Viral hemorrhagic fevers
■ Cholera
■ Diphtheria
■ Yellow fever
■ Infectious tuberculosis
■ Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)
■ Flu that can cause a pandemic
■ Measles

Car racing is cognitive enhancement:
> 12 hrs on a driving video game, and 60-85 yr olds were cognitively overtaking 20 yr olds
> race car drivers do in one brain region what a novice does in 15
> six months later, the seniors kept the gains with zero practice
What Tobi is about to do today is one of the most insane things I’ve seen in athletic performance.
He will be racing for 2.5 hours straight. Before immersing myself in this sport for the past few days, I would have thought “oh that’s cool, he’ll be driving a fast car around a track.”
That is not what this is.
And why I have so much respect for him.
Tobi will be driving a car over 180 mph, experiencing up to 4.2 g of force. That will throw his body forward with 715 lbs of force and his head by 67 lbs.
Braking action requires up to 200 lbs of leg force.
The cockpit will average 104-122°F (40 to 50°C). His multi-layer suit barely allows for evaporation. This will cause his core body temperature to reach 102°F. I achieved this same body temp after 200°F of dry sauna for 34 min. It’s overwhelming. His heart rate will beat between 140-170 bpm.
He will sweat up to 170 fl oz (5 kg), losing 11 lbs of body weight. Some classes run driver cooling systems. His LMP2 doesn't.
Under these conditions, he will need to maintain perfect concentration for the entire 2.5 hours. He’s fighting for tenths of a second on every turn and every stretch.
One small slip up and trouble awaits.
Today it’s even more intense… it’s raining. The track is wet, scrambling everything.
He has to maintain spatial memory of every other car on the track, the complicated rules to avoid penalty, and constantly strategize overtaking other drivers, communicate with his team on the radio, watch for debris, be aware of slightest nuances of his car, and anticipate other drivers.
He did a practice run on Thursday and then a qualifying race yesterday, when he emerged from the car, he was a different human. Unrecognizable from the person who entered the car. Beaming with something like an omnipresence of reality.
We celebrate those who are especially good at kicking balls, shooting balls into baskets, and running with balls. What Tobi will do today is alien to those. I struggle to think of a sport equally as demanding.
Tobi and I have a lot in common. We’ve both built companies. We both spend a lot of time at the keyboard trying to organize the world in ways that we find beautiful. We both love data, method, and analysis. We both have a love for continuous improvement and will endure any pain required to achieve that next goal.
What I’ve not experienced is the unmatched flow state Tobi tells me he drops into when under these racing conditions.
I deeply understand what it means to achieve a 102°F core body temperature after 34 min in a 200°F dry sauna. I also know what 3 g’s feels like from being a pilot. These are extremely intense psychological states.
I know what it means to apply 200 lbs of pressure with my legs.
What I’ve never experienced is all these things, at the same time, for 2.5 hours straight, while maintaining perfect focus.
He is new to car racing. Late by racing standards. DHH got him into it a few years ago. During this first year of racing, he endured to overcome the extreme motion sickness that accompanies the physical and mental violence of the sport.
The race starts at noon eastern. Tobi will be driving for the first 2.5 hours and then @dhh will drop in, followed by Mathias Beche. The race will conclude at 10 pm.
I’ll be in the pit watching as all the data streams in from his car and body and imagining what it’s like to be in that car.

A mass homebuyer exodus is hitting Miami.
Transactions have fallen 47% from their pandemic peak.
From 3,600 in August 2021.
To only 1,900 in August 2026.
This represents the lowest sales activity Miami-Dade has seen since the end of the last housing crash.
In fact, sales today are about 25% below pre-pandemic norms.
The reason this is happening is because locals in Miami cannot afford the prices.
The typical mortgage payment in Miami-Dade, inclusive of taxes and insurance, is $5,000/month.
While the local median income is only $80,000.
The math simply doesn't make sense, and buyers are locked out as a result.

Easy money or a bad look? Miami can’t decide what to do about Vice City. | #ONLYinDADE
Rockstar is paying Miami Beach at least $3 million to put Vice City branding on chairs and umbrellas, and one commissioner says that money alone could cover the Flamingo Park football field renovation. The City of Miami said yes too, and its permit money goes to a heritage trail in Overtown.
Not everyone’s on board. Commissioner David Suarez says Miami Beach spent years trying to shake the spring break chaos, and Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz put it in six words: “Miami-Dade County is not Vice City.”
The game comes out November 19 whether we like it or not.
So what do you think? Smart way to cash in, or is Miami selling its image to a video game? Let us know in the comments

Nashville’s Airbnb downturn is entering a new stage: investor liquidations.
And we’re starting to see listings like this, where an Airbnb owner is trying to sell for $400,000 less than they paid in 2022.
That’s a 40% collapse in just four years.
Even more remarkable, this townhouse is now listed for less than it sold for in 2020.
Meaning the entire pandemic housing boom has been wiped away.
Given how much inventory is now sitting on Nashville's housing market, this could be a sign of things to come.
Buying a home in this market? Don’t trust the asking price. See what any listing is actually worth:

Steel Beach Tomcat Flyby.
This is the iconic knife edge pass photo of an F-14 Tomcat, taken in 1988 aboard the USS America (CV-66) during a Dependents’ Day Cruise/family day event.
The pilot was CDR (later CAPT) Dale “Snort” Snodgrass, then Executive Officer of VF-33 “Starfighters,” one of the most experienced F-14 pilots ever (over 4,800 hours in the Tomcat, the highest-time pilot).
The photo was captured by Aviation Boatswain’s Mate Third Class (ABE3) Sean E. Dunn, a flight deck crew member handling launching and recovering equipment.
Snodgrass was performing the opening pass for a Tomcat tactical demonstration/air show routine at sea. He approached from the starboard rear quarter of the ship, at or slightly below flight deck level, wings swept forward, at around 250 knots. He lit the afterburners about half a mile out, accelerating to ~325 knots. As he neared the fantail (stern), he rolled into an ~85-degree bank and executed a hard 2-3G (or up to 5-6G in some accounts) turn, passing very close with the aircraft knife-edged (wings nearly vertical). He then rolled wings-level just above the deck, pulled vertical with a quarter-roll, and continued the demo with an Immelmann turn.
The vapor/smoke visible is likely from the afterburners and high-speed maneuver in humid air. The people on deck (including Admiral Jay Johnson, arms behind his back, who later became Chief of Naval Operations) provide dramatic scale. Many viewers initially assume it’s photoshopped, a near-crash, or extremely risky, but Snodgrass described it as a practiced, dramatic (but not overly hazardous) way to kick off the show — a maneuver originated by another pilot, Ed “Hunack” Andrews of VF-84.
