I really loved judging so many of the entries, and although we have a top five identified all of which are awesome, there were also so many other projects that have to much potential. I can’t wait to see how development continues.
No rubric existed for grading an autonomous forensic agent. So 90 judges built one. 1,775 evaluations across 123 finalist harnesses, corrected for grader severity, every finalist re-verified. Winners announced Aug 19: youtube.com/watch?v=0qLulRBN… #DFIR #DigitalForensics

Grace Hopper is a legend, and an inspiration to all computer scientists.
Grace Hopper walked into MIT Lincoln Laboratory in April 1985 holding a piece of wire 11.8 inches long. She told the room that was a nanosecond. Light travels no further in that time and no engineer in the audience ever forgot it. She was 78 and still on active duty. The Navy had recalled her twice because nobody else could do the job. She had already found the first computer bug, a moth taped into a logbook in 1947. She had already invented the compiler after being told that computers could only do arithmetic and that nobody would want to write in English. They told her it could not work for three years. She built it anyway. Every high level language traces back through her. At the chalkboard in that lecture she rebuilt the foundations of computer science from nothing, in front of engineers who thought they already knew them. The recording sat unseen until 2016. She handed out nanoseconds so people would stop wasting them.

Brett is a 100% correct on this. Digital forensics is not just a technical discipline, it is an applied legal one as well.
Those working in #DFIR who understand more of the legal process (beyond forensic analysis) will become more effective at forensic analysis.

As a former police officer this breaks my heart to so how good cops have been so fucked over by the corruption in law enforcement thanks to the ANC. There are many of us that share similar stories where those in power have tried to break us.
Breaking news Warrant Officer Karl Sander broke down before the #MadlangaCommission after Advocate Segales-Ncube presented evidence showing he had been cleared of involvement in the Port Shepstone drug theft case.

In Kruger National Park, South Africa, veteran ranger Sipho Nkosi suffered a heart attack while on solo patrol. His vehicle was found empty, and search teams began looking for him. What the park’s remote trail cameras revealed broke the hearts of everyone who saw the footage. An old bull elephant β€” known to rangers as β€œMnumzane” (Zulu for β€œSir”) β€” had found Sipho’s body. For three full days and nights, the elephant refused to leave. He stood guard, gently touching the ranger with his trunk, chasing away hyenas and jackals that came too close, and even covering parts of the body with branches and leaves. On the third night, the elephant was still there β€” visibly grieving, swaying slowly beside his fallen friend. Only when the full recovery team arrived with vehicles did Mnumzane finally step back, watching solemnly as they carried Sipho away. Park officials later confirmed that Sipho had rescued this same elephant as a calf years earlier after poachers killed his mother. The elephant had never forgotten. One colleague who viewed the footage whispered: β€œHe didn’t come to say goodbye. He came to make sure no one disrespected his brother.” Mnumzane still visits the exact spot regularly. Rangers now leave fresh water and fruit there in honor of both.

This is what really matters. As Edmund Burke said, the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing”. Here, a good man acted. That is how we make the world a better place.
Everyone keeps asking whether Ahmed Al-Ahmad is Muslim or Coptic Christian. I understand the instinct given the stare of the world. His name suggests he is likely Muslim, and all indications point that way. But it reminds me of something my old headmaster once said when asked whether a certain schoolboy was White, Black or Coloured. β€œHe’s none of those,” he replied. β€œHe’s a Grey Boy.” Ahmed Al-Ahmad is an Australian. That’s what matters. On a beach in Sydney, a man who runs a fruit shop bravely stepped forward and disarmed a terrorist, saving many lives. Not because of theology. Not because of politics. But because he was a decent human being who chose courage over fear. If he is Muslim, then what a powerful rebuke to those who choose to hijack the faith in that country, for violence. If he is Lebanese by heritage, what a beautiful reminder of what immigrants give to the countries that welcome them. He is simply a man who did the right thing, and that alone is enough. We are tearing the world apart by obsessing over labels - religion, race, tribe, ideology, identity - when the truth is far simpler. Strip any of us down to the bone and we are identical. The differences are clothes we put on, not truths written into nature. Religion that divides is not faith; it is doctrine. Faith should unite. It should protect life. It should always choose love over hate. A Muslim man saved Jewish people on an Australian beach, celebrating Hanukkah πŸ•Ž A universe of history, migration, chance and humanity converged in one single moment - and goodness won. Today, I don’t want to see people arguing about what Ahmed Al-Ahmad is. I want us to honour who he was in that moment. A brave man. A good man. A proud son, and father. A fruit seller who became a hero. A great Australian πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί #AhmedElAhmad #Hero #BondiAttack

That is the truth.
Ahmed El Ahmed is the hero… Naveed Akram is the evil .. It isn’t about religion, it’s about Evil vs Good

Salute to a real hero.
UPDATE: The hero of Bondi has been named. He is Ahmed el Ahmed, a 43 year old fruit shop owner who grabbed the gun off one of the terrorists, he was subsequently shot in the leg and shoulder by another terrorist. Praying that his surgery goes well. He is currently in hospital.
