Today’s the day! Happy 50th Birthday Metro! 🎉5️⃣0️⃣🎉 To celebrate, here’s my model of the 50 Years of Metro wrap revealed yesterday! Can’t wait for the celebrations downtown on @wmata today!
Got my first of the @wmata 50th cards. One down, four to go!
Did you know that the pylon pictured on this card is from the F St exit at Judiciary Sq?
Metro’s first 50th Anniversary SmarTrip card is releasing this Thursday, with a new design releasing every two weeks!

There’s a new exhibit at the National Capital Trolley Museum celebrating 50 Years of Metro! Lots of artifacts on display from the early days of Metro & WMATA, including maps, pennants, and parts from original 1K railcars. Highly recommend any Metro fan checks it out!
More photos of the Indy Car on @wmata after it stopped at L’Enfant Plaza & National Airport! 🏎️ 🏁 Very cool to see up close and surprisingly large turnout for such a short-notice event. Would be cool to see Metro do more display trains like this for other events or holidays!
Not something you see everyday! An Indy Car on @wmata at L’Enfant Plaza!
My haul from @wmata’s Metro U pop-up store today! Had to get the Metro hexagon floor socks. The working SmarTrip wand is also a very creative idea! Disappointed the periodic table shirt wasn’t there, hope it gets added later on!
Did you know WMATA makes commemorative pennants for station openings and other milestones?
Here’s my collection of Metro pennants, including two from the 1983 YL extension to Huntington!
Happy July 4th & America’s 250th! 🎆
Caught @wmata’s America 250 Wrap and got my limited edition SmarTrip card earlier this week! 🇺🇸
The Past & Future of Metro!
Loved stepping into the restored 1976 1K interior, the team behind it did a fantastic job! The classic colors & carpet is so cozy. The new 8K is design has grown on me! New features are great, it just needs a classic Red/White/Blue 🇺🇸 stripe back!
Lots of Metro history along the National Mall this week! The retired 2000-Series Railcar seats are now at the @Smithsonian American History Museum display! And the 1K/8K @wmata exhibit preparations continue further down the Mall for this Thursday!
Had to go see the historic @wmata 1000-Series car along the National Mall today! It looks amazing, all shiny and like-new. Can’t wait to see the throwback interior! The 8K full-size mockup is also looking cool, it seems to have new wall artwork inside.
Had the incredible chance to tour WMATA’s Dulles Yard with DCNRHS today! Being able to tour a Metro yard has been a dream of mine forever. So many behind-the-scenes operations to see and hear about. Super interesting and informative!

- L’Enfant Plaza

So excited for this! #Metro50
Celebrating 50 years of America’s Transit System at the Great American State Fair!

The 2026 @wmata Pride Month wrap is out this week, returning for the fourth year in a row! 🏳️🌈🌈 Fittingly very bright and colorful!
Metro Owner’s Manual 50 years apart!
Here’s an original @wmata “Owner’s Manual” which was a promotional insert in the Washington Star from March 1976 compared to the 2026 50th Anniversary Edition! The 1976 future map is pretty close, minus the Silver Line.
Both of these manuals are viewable on WMATA’s website if you want to read through them!
