Last night the District of Columbia lost one of its cannabis pioneers, Alan Amsterdam. He was a co-author of #Initiative71 and a founding member of @dcmj2014. He was also DC’s first Certified Ganjier and the former owner of Capitol Hemp. Alan was the first and only American citizen to solely own a coffee shop in Amsterdam in The Netherlands back in the late '90s. His legacy will be celebrated on 4/20/27. Details TBA.
The Supreme Court sided with a Texas marijuana user who wants to legally own a gun apnews.com/article/supreme-c…
The order signed by Todd Blanche does not legalize marijuana for medical or recreational use under federal law. But it does change the way it’s regulated, shifting licensed medical marijuana from Schedule I to the less strictly regulated Schedule III.

Interesting detail: In the 100 weed shops that have been closed, D.C. has seized 710 pounds of cannabis, 6,300 pounds of edibles, 144 pounds of magic mushrooms and mushroom edibles, and 12 guns. All told, 56 people have been arrested.
D.C. has been aggressively closing down illicit weed shops for more than a year now, so much so that today @MayorBowser is celebrating the 100th such closure.

Interesting: Trump may just have legalized recreational weed sales in D.C.
A congressional rider has banned those sales in D.C. since 2015. But it specifically references Schedule I drugs, which weed was. With Trump rescheduling marijuana, the rider may no longer apply.

The rest of us will still be here pushing for justice-focused reform
Of course prohibitionist Rep. Andy Harris wants to keep cannabis Schedule I 🤬
House and Senate Republicans are making a last-ditch attempt to convince President Donald Trump not to reschedule marijuana—sending a pair of letters that argue the move would harm public health and safety.

We’ve been consistent over the years: DEschedule cannabis!
Moving cannabis to Schedule III keeps it within the purview of the DEA. The biggest beneficiary of rescheduling is the billion dollar Pot Inc., which will finally get to write off their cultivation expenses.
