Meeting Marshall Ganz at the @DCLFoundation lecture series last week was a once in a lifetime opportunity - as well as taking his Public Narrative course.
The wildest part was that of the 200+ students around the world, I got to meet one of them!
Hope is the inverse of fear 🤍

It's amazing to see the legacy of Canadians like Tommy Douglas, M.J. Coldwell, and Jack Layton continue through the fantastic work of @officialtommyd. Check them out to learn more about how we can build a Canada that doesn't leave anyone behind!

This event is paired with the @DCLFoundation's Jack Layton Prize - last year's essay prompt was on affordable housing, this year's was on inflation, and maybe next year's will be ...

How do we decide the target inflation rate?
@ArmineYalnizyan believes it’s hard to say. The current targeted 2% is an arbitrary number because even if we fixed inflation, prices are already high, stating, “Let’s think about the problem as affordability and not inflation.”
Douglas Coldwell Layton retweeted
@francesdonald argues that we should care about inflation because it’s driving policy, and possibly in inappropriate ways. For instance, she argues that the Bank of Canada is contributing to inflation by raising rates on mortgages and other areas.

@ArmineYalnizyan “We have more people earning low wages in Canada who can’t afford rising prices,” when asked why we should care about inflation.

@ArmineYalnizyan argues that we must look at fighting inflation with a bigger lens, instead of just focusing on supply and prices.

@ArmineYalnizyan on inflation, “We haven’t seen anything like this.” She states society is depending on the working-age cohort, given lower fertility rates and other factors. Thus, fighting inflation must coincide with helping workers and making living more affordable.

@francesdonald’s opens with discussing inflation increasing post-2020 and how it may coincide with a recession, “Longer term, we are looking at a new paradigm.”

Happy to bring greetings on behalf of the @DCLFoundation for the inaugural Jack Layton lecture at McGill's @MaxBellSchool.
Interesting discussion about inflation and the cost of living.
Jack would have been pleased.

Thirty-seven years ago today, Tommy Douglas passed away.
I am asking you to share this message, to remind Doug Ford that he was voted the Greatest Canadian because he spent his life fighting for publicly-funded, publicly-delivered health care.
Let’s honour Tommy’s legacy.

This is a really important and revealing study we did with @DCLFoundation on mental health at work.
WHAT WORKPLACE FACTORS IMPACT MENTAL HEALTH?
The leading predictors include:
👉Inflexible and unsupportive workplaces
👉Work that doesn’t provide much meaning or fulfilment
👉Jobs that leave workers no further ahead financially and anxious
