Counterpoint: US sports fans are by and large toxic. WNBA was a league small enough that they got to set a culture that was more inclusive and less defined by drunk dudes ruining the experience for children in attendance? Idk sounds cool wish they could keep it
Replying to @HoopAddict31
Dafuq you talking about? No one was watching the league. She brought millions of eyeballs and turned the league in a mainstream sport and yall have spent the past three years telling all those new people they aren’t welcome and calling them names. These are people who made the new CBA possible. I have never in my life seen a business so determined to self sabotage than the wnba.

GENIUS REASONABLE LEFT WING GUY: whoa has anyone ever taken this conservative moral panic at face value....it's pretty crazy stuff that makes you think!
Wait, before 2023 there weren’t drunk assholes throwing dildos on the court and yelling at the players? I started watching too late. Note how only fans of men’s sports are “true sports fans” to people like this.
I know this is an unpopular opinion in a site where everyone is a miserable human but:
people who act like assholes should get kicked out of games. Sports are for kids. Adults can come but if they have poor impulse control put them in timeout.
You can say A'ja Wilson overreacted, but in a split second of looking up, she perceived a fan's forward movement as a threat.
In context of everything with that fanbase, I can't blame her. My only criticism is she gave him more attention than deserved:

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Arena security determined the fan did not violate the Fan Code of Conduct and allowed him to return to his seat. He stood up and pointed toward Wilson after the foul call, per reports and footage.

The SF Democratic Party committee has two active Flock lobbyists on it.
Really appreciate @sunrisebayarea for standing up to this.

Kinda like we purged this Narcissistic podcaster who flew into SF for 14 whole minutes to center his immediate desires of cashing carpetbagging congressional candidate checks, the same looksmaxxing faux-woke dude who perpetuated lies about Connie? Ring a bell, HASAN?
as someone who has built a sizable and approachable left community online, the secret sauce is routinely purging narcissistic woke scolds who deploy emancipatory language when they want to center their immediate desires selfishly as a separate convo is taking place. it’s also caused a lot of grief from ppl who see out of context clips, but nevertheless boundaries must be drawn.

San Francisco’s 27 Democratic clubs have historically been scrappy, dues-funded neighborhood groups. Now many have increasingly become front groups for a billionaire-backed "Astroturf Network" pushing SF politics rightward. 🧵

It's really funny how the NFL has a helmet that reduces concussion chance by 50% but makes you look 50% more gay and most NFL players are like yeah give me the 50% less gay one
Few things worse than finding out the funny Japanese immigrant guy is TERF MAGA
Charlie Kirk was shot dead at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025.
His widow Erika stood on stage at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, eleven days later.
The stadium was full.
The 22-year-old who killed her husband was in custody by then.
Erika said his name at the microphone.
And then, on live national television, she forgave him.
"That young man — I forgive him. It is what Christ did on the cross. It is what Charlie would do."
Earlier that same week she had gone in to identify the body of the man she loved.
She told the stadium about it.
"I looked directly at my husband's murdered body. I saw the wound that ended his life."
"I felt shock. I felt a level of heartache I did not know existed."
Then she said that sentence.
And then she picked up the mission of the man she had just buried.

as so many have recently demonstrated when bourgeois ideology repeatedly converts unequal social/political relations into evidence of individual virtue, then distributes resources according to those judgements, the resulting hierarchy appears natural, consequences seem accidental
In our latest, we’re joined by @DaShaunLH to discuss how we became an object of right wing ridicule over the last week and how the media dogpile from Joe Rogan to Ben Shapiro to Fox News proved our point

I miss the old Clippers fans that accepted who they were. This group trying to pretend like the Clippers are a real franchise got proven wrong by Pablo and still won’t shut the fuck up
Paxton is running non-stop ads during football with video of talarico being pro-trans. So unless you’ve never been pro-trans, this centrist pivot to throw them under the bus makes zero impact. They’ve got you on video being on our side. So just own it and stick to your guns.

Ten years ago, a trans woman was in a supporting role in the most popular television show of the era, and people loved her. She was on the cover of magazines, and now we have weak centrists saying it’s impossible to change public opinion. The right already changed public opinion!

Dems: don’t you want to win elections? Winning elections requires trade offs. I don’t like it either but that’s what it takes.
Us: so you’ll on moderate on trans people in sports in order to give us healthcare?
Dems: well, no
Us: will you raise the minimum wage?
Dems: uh
Us: ok but you’ll abolish ICE, right? You’ll hold Israel accountable?
Dems: well…
Us: ok so we trade trans people in sports for what exactly?
Dems: YOURE ALLERGIC TO POWER!!!
