If you are going fishing today and want to enjoy your bank holiday Monday, please remember to buy a rod licence. 3 hours into my shift and already 4 without a valid licence.

It never ceases to amaze me that a salmon that had spent it’s adult life swimming vast oceans will suddenly swim up tiny rivers and risk it all to pass on its genes. This one did just that though this week.

🐟 500 fish saved! Our electrofishing team moved trout, eels, minnow and more from drying sections of the upper River Hems, South Devon, to flowing water downstream. Without action, these fish wouldn't have survived the drought.

Our rivers are fine balanced ecosystems providing habitat to some amazing species. In the south west this includes migratory trout and salmon. Please don’t make their travel upstream any harder by adding unnecessary man-made structures that block fish passage. #seatrout #salmon

In the hot dry weather algal blooms can form in our rivers, lakes and seas. When we receive a report we collect and analyse samples. If confirmed as Blue Green Algae it presents a risk to people and pets and we advise landowners to erect warning signs. gov.uk/government/publicatio…

Two men from Sunderland have landed fines and costs of over £1,250 for using an unlicenced gill net in the River Wear. They only caught one sea trout on this occasion but the net could have been deadly to any wildlife entangled in it. Report illegal fishing 24/7 to 0800 807060.
