I appreciated the opportunity to join the Commander of Operation @EUNAVFOR_MED IRINI, Rear Admiral Marco Casapieri, and the Ambassador of Malta to Italy, Daniel Azzopardi, in welcoming the Secretary General of the General Command of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, General Khairy Tamimi, to the Operation’s Headquarters in Rome today.
We finalised the procedures to establish a Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Benghazi under Operation IRINI, with funding from Italy and Malta. The Centre, together with dedicated training by IRINI and @EUBAMLibya, will strengthen Libya’s capacity to conduct search and rescue operations at sea in line with international standards and human rights.
The meeting marks an important milestone in the #EU-#Libya partnership to save lives at sea and advance rights-based migration and integrated border management. – at Rome, Lazio

Thanks dear @MartinSelmayr for the 🇪🇺 HoMs meeting with Secr. of State Beccari @AffariEsteriSMR and to @ClaraMartinezAl for an excellent presentation of the 🇪🇺 Assoc. Agreement with 🇸🇲.
Reiterated on my part 🇨🇾 @Cy2026’s determination to exert all efforts for its swift signing.
Very useful 🇪🇺EU27 Heads of Missions meeting with the Head of the Government of 🇸🇲San Marino, Secretary of State for Foreign and Political Affairs Luca Beccari, at #VillaEuropa🇪🇺 in Rome. We exchanged views on the state of play of the EU’s Association Agreement with San Marino and Andorra and heard a very inspiring presentation of this agreement by @ClaraMartinezAl. Following more than 10 years of negotiations and taking into account the special relations between the EU and our very close neighbour San Marino, we gave strong support to the Cypriot Council Presidency @CY2026EU and to the European Commission’s chief negotiator @MarosSefcovic to now move swiftly to the signature and provisional application of the Association Agreement.

Malta welcomes the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran. We thank the mediation efforts of Pakistan and all partners involved in the negotiations. May this be the first step leading towards a comprehensive and long-lasting resolution on all issues for the much-needed peace and stability in the region. Diplomacy, dialogue and de-escalation must prevail on all fronts.

A great honour to have hosted Deputy PM and MFA of Malta 🇲🇹 H.E. Ian Borg as Guest Speaker for the 🇪🇺 HoMs lunch in #Valletta. Thank you @DeputyPMIanBorg for commending the work of 🇨🇾@CY2026EU and sharing your take on our common EU challenges with clarity and political foresight.
Prolonged conflict in the Middle East continues to pose serious humanitarian, political and security challenges far beyond the region, including for Europe. In uncertain times such as these, the EU must strengthen its capacity to unite and deliver.
I made these remarks earlier this afternoon when addressing a meeting of the Heads of Missions of EU member states in Malta, hosted by the High Commissioner of Cyprus in Malta @ChristofidesY as part of the Cypriot Presidency of the EU @CY2026EU.
I also commended the Cypriot Presidency for its leadership at a particularly demanding moment for the European Union, when our collective ability to demonstrate strategic direction, credibility and preparedness is more important than ever.
