The High Energy Period persists through to the end of the month. This time of year supports thunderstorm activity, so totals will vary widely: many places will see less than 10 mm, or nothing at all, while pockets within very narrow corridors could see upwards of 100 mm, as the Sunshine Coast did overnight. Current patterns continue to the end of October before rebuilding in late November, when activity is expected to be more widespread and at times intense. Detailed member updates drop today covering current and upcoming conditions, along with the long-range signals still to come. Water vapour tells the real story tonight. Wave after wave of tropical moisture is surging in from the Indian Ocean, courtesy of the positive IOD. At the same time a significant storm outbreak is developing across the interior and the east, courtesy of El Nino. This outbreak has initialised just days ahead of the long range schedule, which had it due from 18 October. Tonights satellite loop is a reminder of why planning around generic climate driver labels is a mistake. ā€œEl Nino means dryā€ and ā€œpositive IOD means dryā€ are headlines, not forecasts. More often than not the outcome on the ground does not match the label. Cynoptec members have had these dates and corridors in hand for months. Member severe weather and climate updates drop tomorrow covering the closing weather cycles and high energy periods through to the end of 2026. Cynoptec - Know the Futureā„¢
