Hey! I’m Bobby. I make MallVR, a free tool that lets you play the old Virtuality arcade VR games (the 1990s pods) in a modern SteamVR headset. I’m trying to get more people to see it, and a video review would help a lot. Gameplay, first impressions, or a rant all work. Honest is better than polished. You can see what it looks like and read more at gainesphere.com/pages/mallvr. The picture above is Pac-Man VR running in MallVR. How to get it running (about 10 minutes): Go to gainesphere.com/pages/mallvr… and download the free MallVR Loader zip. Unzip it somewhere you can write to, like C:\Games\MallVR. Don’t use Program Files. Get the game files from the Internet Archive. MallVR only includes the loader, not the game. The hard drive dump: archive.org/details/su2000-h…. Download the .7z file and unzip it with 7-Zip (free, 7-zip.org). Copy the folder that has a PAC folder inside it (alongside DAC, DN2 and so on) into the games folder inside MallVR. The Pac-Man VR CD image: archive.org/details/drive-do…. Unzip it and copy everything inside, including PACMAN.CUE, PACMAN.BIN and the music files, into the same games folder. Keep them together. There’s a PUT_YOUR_GAMES_HERE.txt in the games folder that says the same. Double-click Check_My_Games.bat. When it says READY next to Pac-Man VR, you’re set. If it says NEEDS CD, the CUE and BIN files aren’t in the games folder. Turn on your headset and SteamVR first, then double-click Play_Pac-Man_VR.bat. It also opens a mirror window on your monitor, which is handy for recording. No headset? Play_Pac-Man_VR_NoVR.bat plays it on the monitor with keyboard and mouse. If Windows SmartScreen complains about the .bat files, click More info, then Run anyway. They’re plain text, so you can open them in Notepad and see what they do. If you get stuck, join the Discord (“MallVR | MallRats”, discord.gg/7tDn2AAXEC) and I’ll help you get going. If you make a video, send me the link. I’d love to watch it and share it. If you’d like to support the project, it’s at ko-fi.com/mallvr, but that’s completely optional. Thanks for taking a look!

Imagine police seizing pinball machines from local businesses! 🕹️⚖️ In the 1930s and ’40s, early machines faced crackdowns over gambling concerns. The Philadelphia Inquirer traces pinball’s path from controversy to arcade icon. NOTE: Paywalled Article inquirer.com/history/pinball…

Continuing on making ballistic weapons more interesting to use and build. Previously I added magazines and autoloaders. Now I've also added that rotary weapons spinning block autoloaders from refilling that ammo type until they stop. Good for burst damage, bad for sustained fire.

Researchers have taught a robotic hand to move independently. By treating its fingers as legs, AI learns to coordinate their movements, push against the ground and crawl across different surfaces. Onboard sensors help it adapt in real time.
