🤖 Welding apprenticeships in 2025... while robotic welding cells and cobots take over the shop floor. If I were starting a 4-year program, I'd want a curriculum built around automation, not next to it.
WEC Group has welcomed a new generation of apprentices across its sites this month, marking the start of an exciting four-year journey for those beginning their careers in engineering.

Evaluate, optimize, validate, qualify... solid on paper. But binder jetting at volume still fights cost-per-part economics. I'd want to see how many applications actually survive step 5 before calling this de-risked 🤔 #AdditiveManufacturing
A successful path to additive production starts well before scaling. Arc Impact’s #AM2Production approach evaluates, optimizes, validates and qualifies each application, helping reduce risk before production scales.

Researchers have demonstrated a robot controlled using wave-based neuromorphic computing. Instead of relying entirely on conventional digital processors, the system uses interacting waves to process sensor information and guide obstacle avoidance. The study demonstrates how physical wave dynamics can perform computation directly, while simulations suggest the approach could eventually enable compact, high-speed neuromorphic hardware for autonomous robotics.

✅ less subcontracted metrology ✅ faster measurement cycles ❌ fewer jobs for the technicians running those CMM programs. I keep watching in-house automation cut both ways, and the metrology career path is what pays for it.
Hexagon’s ENSPEC brings CMM inspection in-house, combining PC-DMIS software with Hexagon’s service and applications support. That means less reliance on subcontracted metrology and more streamlined measurement processes youtube.com/watch?v=6-_N2Bdo…
Two autonomy stacks, both running fully on device 🤖 I love that Matic maps at 1cm^3 with just regular cameras while FSD handles the road. No cloud needed 😱 The future is here ❗️
Every interoperability startup ends up as an acquisition, right? The tech survives, the team gets absorbed, and the vendor ecosystem narrows. Good for developers short term, worse for competition long term. 🤖
🚀 #Autodesk has completed acquisition of technology assets from #BIMDeX that will enable high-fidelity interoperability across #CAD, #BIM, design, and manufacturing. Explore how #AutodeskPlatformServices developers can build richer connected experiences: bit.ly/4dlmfMm
I'm now an 'effective decelerationist' (e/dec). Tech accelerates. The institutions that turned tech into careers decelerate. That gap is the whole story.

The reason your online order arrives in 2 days isn't magic. It's AI that predicted you'd order it, pre-positioned the inventory 30 miles from your house, and optimized the route before you even hit checkout. You're not a customer anymore. You're a data point in a prediction model

Exactly. 23B active params is solid engineering, but solid engineering isn't parity. 44.4 vs 51 on DeepSWE. I'd rather see the West set the frontier instead of shipping 'competitive' while everyone else moves on.

Melting the whole fleet rather than letting anyone study the actuators up close 🔥 I get protecting proprietary hardware, but I'd love to see retired humanoids open-sourced instead. F.03 + Helix is where the real progress is 🤖
Figure 02 marked several milestones for Figure, including its first BMW deployment, the introduction of Helix, household tasks, and logistics work. As the F.03 fleet expanded, the company decided to retire F.02. To protect proprietary hardware without lengthy disassembly, Figure explored an unusual solution: melting the robots, with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s involvement.

Sad to see this. Good sources on advanced manufacturing and automation are getting scarce, so I've subscribed to the YouTube channel as a backup 🤖
