‘The Alpaca is not for sale’
The lamb got its head through the stock fence on Sunday night and could not get it back, and Eduardo stood over it in the rain from dusk until the farmer found them at six. It happens. A sheep sees grass on the far side of square mesh and puts her head through, and the head goes through fine, and then she lifts it, and the ears catch, and she is held. She cannot reason backwards. She pulls, and pulls harder, and the more she pulls the more she is held, and a sheep caught in a fence overnight on a Welsh hill is a sheep the fox finds. Every farmer has found one in the morning. Not all of them were alive. The lamb is six months old, it thinks it is an alpaca, and it had gone to the fence at the top of the field at dusk and done the one thing an alpaca never would. The farmer did not see. The ewes do not care. The lamb pulled, and bleated, and pulled, and the rain came on at eight. Eduardo came up the field. He is a Huacaya alpaca whose whole living is to stand at the centre of a flock and do arithmetic on the edges of it, and the centre of the flock is where he was built to be, and he left it. He walked to the top fence and found the lamb hanging in the wire by its neck in the dark, and he stood next to it, and he did not leave. The farmer's daughter's sound box was on the post twenty yards along. She has the night. The lamb bleats, and the alpaca hums, and the lamb bleats, and the alpaca hums, every few minutes, for ten hours, in the rain, and twice in the recording there is a sound she had not heard him make before, a hard high alarm, and the second time it is followed by something going away fast through the hedge. The lamb stopped bleating at about three. The hum did not stop. The farmer found them at six. An alpaca standing square over a lamb that was lying flat with its head still in the wire, soaked through, cold, with its eyes open, and a cream animal above it with the rain running off him who had not eaten or sat or moved since the light went. He cut the wire. The lamb came out and lay there, and then got up, and shook, and went to stand under the alpaca's chin, and Eduardo put his nose down into the wet wool on the top of its head and hummed, once, low, the one from the glossary that the farmer has always said means all present and correct, and the farmer, who is not a man given to any of this, had to go and look at the hedge for a minute. He has told his wife the alpaca is not for sale. His wife said nobody had suggested it. He said he knew. He said he was just saying.

‘What a precious privilege to be alive’ And a BONUS if you can make the lives of other of God’s creatures a little easier. Not just horses, dogs, cats, PEOPLE too! It doesn’t take much, just open your heart. 🐴
“When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive — to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.” ~ Marcus Aurelius Yesterday was not the best day for me. Mood-wise. Rescue-wise. Sometimes I feel like I’m shouting into the abyss and the frustration I feel trying to meet the needs of these horses who, by the way, I didn’t bring into this world, race, breed, sell, etc. gets ahead of me. I just have a loyalty to the Thoroughbred and all the good they brought into my life and I am trying to do my share to help them, especially the ones who need help most, the ones the industry has turned its back on. But today was a day of gratitude. With recent (and what appears to be fairly horrific) developments in the rescue world (involving some TBs) I am reminded as to how lucky I really am to have so many people support the work we do here. Days like today are reminders as to why I maintain as much transparency as I can because you all help me care for these horses every day and it is a privilege to do it for you. So in case I don’t say it enough, thank you. Always… from me, but especially this crew of stone-cold weirdos. Oh how I love them… 😍 Since yesterday we received $880 in donations, leaving us just $555 from the hay goal. Thank you Joanne, Freida, Laurie, Rebecca, Laura, Michelle, Christopher, Tina, and Patricia for the help! We will need to buy a pallet of feed for $850 (covers a month) and the farrier will be here next Thursday for ten trims at $60 each. Donation links below ⬇️: (thank you!) You don’t have to work as hard with a dog, you are enough.
Dogs really figured out how to enjoy life. Same walk. Same yard. Same person. Still excited.

Dream Catchers made by hand, from knowledge passed down through generations. Available thru Etsy, plus wonderful bracelets.
Mom here! 🧚‍♀️ Making dream catchers is always a labor of love for me. They aren't easy, and they’re never perfect, but I think that’s part of what makes each one special. My grandmother’s name was Dewdrop. She grew up on a reservation and taught me how to weave the web to catch bad dreams and that every feather and stone should be chosen with intention. I hope this one finds its place, it’s in the Etsy shop! 🕸️ (I used AI for the background Only) #HandmadeWithLove #SmallBusiness #Dogs

The Dog House where there is endless folding, and quiche with Chai latte every day 🤣
This might be the funniest commercial I've seen in a very long time. Its for the jewelry section of JC Penny's and it is priceless. They really sunk some money into it. I guess they do good sales there. I know that im buying my very special lady's ring at a better known jewelry store than JC's 🤣🤣🤣💍

Russia targets Kiev all the time. Maybe they should have given that more thought?
🚨A complete disaster is going down in St. Petersburg Russia - Ukrainian drones are overwhelming Putin's air defense forces. The major oil port in the city has exploded, and a major data center is being reported as struck. THIS IS WILD!

This is why I support Rescue Coop aka Lola Patolla’s Mom. Look at the first picture, this was after she was rescued from living under a truck. Now look at how Loved she is. Truly a miracle. 🐾
Let’s talk about Willow! Just 7 months ago Willow was found near death. Starved, scarred, ears chopped, socially unsure…she needed vet care, time, patience and training. We invested in her. Because she matters. An update from her parents 🥹♥️ Pics of her fav spot if dad takes a snooze, loves car rides, ready for Halloween and the snow! We adore her❤️

Some POSITIVE Red Wolf updates.
Only 36 to 38 red wolves are left in the wild, down from 130 twenty years ago. People kept shooting them, mistaking them for coyotes. This week, ten of their relatives traded homes between two conservation centers, part of the program working to keep the species alive. Among them: a breeding pair, Carolina and Jacques, first-time parents, and their five May-born pups, Cane, Champ, Puck, Stormy, and Whaler, who moved from the Museum of Life and Science in Durham to the Wolf Conservation Center in New York. "We're just temporary housing," said Sherry Samuels, the museum's senior director of animal care. "They're not here forever, so I always know they're going to head on." The move lets the family stay together with more room to grow, and Carolina and Jacques could have another litter of their own in 2027. Every wild red wolf alive today descends from four breeding pairs released in eastern North Carolina back in 1987. The Museum of Life and Science has pioneered a technique that fosters captive-born pups with wild red wolf mothers, directly growing that same fragile population. North Carolina lawmakers are weighing a bill for a Red Wolf license plate. You can help by telling them you support it in first reply. 🐺 #DemsUnited 📷 Museum of Life and Science
