this is incredible, mowing at night might change the game for munis / publics that can’t afford elite crews to maintain their tracks but can potentially afford these mowers

Wakonda Club in Des Moines is an excellent 1922 William Langford design that was spectacularly restored by Tyler Rae in 2023. Surprising land movement, excellent green complexes in great shape & a standout set of Par-3s. As facilities are upgraded it’ll be a premier private club.

I used to think that I would never play a truly great mountain golf course: that changed last week.
Rock Creek Cattle Co. is a thoughtfully routed, strategic mountain masterpiece. It’s like playing golf on alpine ocean waves.
Breathtaking is an understatement!

No bueno at Cedar Rapids CC today…
@crcc_grounds had the drone up early. Ugh….at least we can still play tennis!

Sunningdale - New
#55 World Top 100
1923 - Harry Colt
Private with limited public access
$650 18 Holes / $1138 36 Holes USD
It’s rare for a golf club to have two world top 100 golf courses.
Even rarer that the two are so different. Both are very much heathland, but the feel and look provides a great contrast.
The new is more open feeling, with more expansive views and less trees. The greens have bigger contours and are bolder in aesthetic. There are longer carries required on the New, overall it’s a bit tougher, while the Old is a bit more charming.
It’s an absolutely wonderful walk and with the Gil Hanse changes, it will get even better. (There are some bold proposed changes that will bring the New much closer in quality to the Old, huge improvements.) The New has undergone lots of changes over the years and Gil is basically creating an optimal version of what should have been.
The routing is so good. One of the great things is that you meet up multiple times at tee and green areas with other groups. This provides a great chance to say hi and be social. (Amazingly I ran into an American friend at one of these junctions, golf is a small world!) There are some decent hills on the course and they are routed wonderfully so it never feels like a hike.
The tree removal here has really opened things up. Where the Old feels more like a walk in the forest, you can see other golfers a lot more on the New. You get some great vistas, I think it’s a great contrast and I hope they don’t remove too many from the Old, different can be good.
In talking to the members, most are ecstatic about the changes. (Though a bit more reserved about touching the Old course.) And they are very much in favor of the more bold changes that will be on the way.
A 36 hole walk at Sunningdale is one of the absolute best days in golf. The members here are some the most welcoming and proud members, it’s truly one of the very best member clubs in the world. A day to remember!
Thankful to get to participate this year.
It’s going to be a yearly trip. Amazing day of golf
Every fall, we return to Green Lake, Wisconsin for a day with the good people at Lawsonia. Home to our first ever event back in the spring of 2019, the Links Course has now hosted seven groups of attendees. Over that time, the course has seen dramatic improvements and further cemented its spot as one of the best public values in the country. But while the course has changed, its people and the culture at Lawsonia remain as welcoming and warm as the first time we stepped on property. Those who are lucky enough to have attended Lawsonia in any capacity over the years will tell you the same.
@LawsoniaGolf and its people have welcomed nearly 800 of our event participants over the years. We cannot wait to bring 100+ again next September.

Yesterday was a 36 hole day at Lawsonia Links! I've played the Links every year since 2019.
My heart is happy when I'm on property. I love the golf course, the people, and of course Langford's.
I am blown away by how much things have changed over the past 7-8 years. It used to be easy to get tee times, for example. 😉
The best changes are to the course. Fairway expansion and a bunker renovation project have made the course even better than it was when I first visited.
Until next time...

As Gil Hanse and team put the finishing touches on their work, the baton is being passed to our outstanding agronomy team at Spanish Bay.
Most holes are now grassed including the opening and closing par-fives that bookend the round while simultaneously framing unforgettable views for guests of The Inn.
Less than six months removed from closing, the transformation of Spanish Bay is more evident by the day.
Tom Simpson is wildly
Underrated.
Golf De Fontainebleau
1909 - Tom Simpson
#4 in France
Private with limited public tee times
Wow. What an introduction to French golf. Fontainebleau is a magical place.
Lying about an hour south of Paris near the gorgeous town of the same name, this fabulous course is filled with unique natural features and architectural brilliance.
The course design sits between heathland and parkland, running through the forest and with natural rock outcroppings that add a unique and interesting hazard. The routing is 2 nines that both meet back at the clubhouse and it’s brilliant in the way it uses the natural terrain.
The greens are very good, with lots of undulation and the false fronts definitely will repel your golf ball.
The bunkering is interesting because it’s currently in the process of a renovation by Clayton, Devries, and Pont, so you will see 2 distinct styles in play. The CDP work definitely shines. The bunkering placement is so good, the fairway bunkers are a constant challenge to avoid and seem to be placed perfectly to cause doubt.
The clubhouse is true class. It speaks of a different era. The terrace is incredible and the food a class above almost all golf clubs. Members and their families were all there this day and enjoying the club together, it was a great sight. They had lots of kids playing, it was a joy to see so many kids having fun and playing golf.
Fontainebleau is incredible and with the proper renovation work, it could be talked about with some of the great courses in Europe. (It already is, but it can be even better!.) Just a great day with an amazing host.

Until 72 hours ago, I had never in my life stepped foot on Irish soil. Little did I know what I would witness and what emotions I would feel in such a short time.
I witnessed the greatest Walker Cup comeback in history. Although the team I was pulling for didn’t come out on top, it felt like the greatest outcome for The Walker Cup to heighten its intensity for years to come.
I felt an unmatched sense of community amongst the Irish town of Lahinch. I met people I instantly felt a kinship with, even though they saw how my cherry red American pullover adorned with a Team USA logo stuck out like a pink straw in a pint of Guinness.
I celebrated with a @GatorsGolf star who just last year felt the agony of a loss at Cypress Point, only heightening the euphoria of this victory. Truly happy for him and all of team GB & I and their amazing perseverance to pull a historic victory from the jaws of a certain defeat.
I walked the grounds with a good friend who always helped us be in the right place at the right time, both on and off the course.
I took a picture with a real goat. 😂
I felt the chilling wetness of an Irish rainstorm whipping through the opening ceremony just as Captain Nathan Smith was introducing his team.
Maybe most importantly, I witnessed an American squad come out to the town at night and show grace through a gutting defeat and share a moment with the locals and Team GB& I. The greatness and true meaning of The Walker Cup was on full display. The game of golf won, no doubt.
This moment, this feeling of connection to a town and community may be unmatched in my lifetime and I was so blessed I got to experience this unreal moment in time for the game of golf.
This was an all-timer; one that generations of people will talk about forever and will inspire the next crop of young ones to chase that little white ball in search of Walker Cup glory like local Irish star Stuart Grehan or 18th hole hero Josh Hill.
I will be coming back, and very soon, to play all the great courses here and become enthralled with these wonderful people and this heaving linksland once again.
Can’t wait.

Down in the wilds of Georgia, on an ancient shoreline where the Atlantic Ocean once came to an end, there exists a magical place where a fortunate golfer can enjoy a round with the charm of the English Heathlands in the morning and another with the vibe of the Australian Sandbelt in the afternoon.
This magical place is called the Fall Line Club - it’s awesome, and I hope you get to see it someday.

The Silo Club in Nevada, IA is the lastest addition to Iowa's golf scene. And it's a great addition. This 9 hole gem will hold its own against any other great 9 hole property in the country.
Originally Indian Creek Golf Club, the course was purchased and the club was closed in 2024. Architect Kevin Hargrave went to work, and created something truly special. The Silo Club opened officially in May 2026.
Hargrave made great use of the property, creating a course that tumbles and rolls over the land. With the opening brute of a par 4, you get a sense for what you're about to play. The fairway is generous, the approach is demanding, and the green contours will keep you thinking.
The 5th hole, a medium length par 4, is my favorite on the course. An elevated tee plunges down to a generous fairway. The approach plays over a creek to a large green where 3 putts are the order of the day for any shots not finding the correct portion of the green.
The Vibe at The Silo Club is completely laid back. The clubhouse is simple, offering drinks, snacks and some merch. Outside the clubhouse is a Himilayas style putting green that is connected to the 9th green. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and truly makes the day better.
The Silo Club is a great all around experience. If you're lucky enough to get an invite, you should definitely go!
Congratulations my man. They are getting a good one! 🤛
