The CFTC just proposed treating event contracts on sports, politics, culture, and weather as federally regulated swaps, asserting exclusive federal jurisdiction over them.
This is the resolution to a jurisdictional fight we flagged back in August, when CME and Kalshi clashed at a CFTC roundtable over exactly this question. Unclear jurisdiction does not stay unclear forever.
Federally regulated swaps, distinguished from gambling, under exclusive CFTC jurisdiction. That is about as close to a clean answer as market structure questions get. #CFTC #PredictionMarkets #DigitalAssets
ESMA has named AI and tokenization as EU supervisory priorities for 2027. Every AI story so far has been about platforms adopting it. This is the regulator naming AI as something it has to actively supervise, not just something the market is adopting. #ESMA #AI #CryptoRegulation
Circle is pressing the EU to loosen MiCA's stablecoin reserve rules, seeking more flexibility than the current bank-deposit minimums and easier cross-border issuance.
Every MiCA story we have covered so far has been about implementation or tighter oversight. This is the opposite direction, an issuer actively lobbying for more room to operate.
More flexibility for issuers is not automatically the same thing as weaker protection for holders. The question worth asking is which specific requirement is being loosened, and why. #MiCA #Stablecoins #CryptoRegulation
The UK FCA has set February 28, 2027 as the deadline for AML-registered crypto firms to apply for full authorisation. Registrations do not convert automatically. Full regime effective October 25, 2027 — a real countdown, not a soft target. #FCA #CryptoRegulation
South Korea's Eugene Investment is testing stablecoins for securities settlement — the first real Asia-Pacific data point in a story that has so far been all US, UK, and EU. Same question every region eventually asks: who can hold it compliantly. #Stablecoins #APAC
The UK FCA raided three London premises this week over suspected illegal peer-to-peer crypto trading. Not a future authorisation deadline. Active enforcement, today. Regulation without enforcement is a suggestion. This is not that. #FCA #CryptoRegulation #DigitalAssets
The SEC just granted a 5-year exemption for tokenized stock trading. Not an open door, a conditional one.
The exemption comes with real limits: trading caps and transparency requirements attached to how tokenized US equities can trade onchain. This is regulators testing the model, not endorsing it outright.
For platforms built on genuine compliance infrastructure, operating inside caps and disclosure requirements is not a new discipline. It is the discipline we already practice. #SEC #Tokenization #DigitalAssets
Stablecoin market cap is forecast to reach $400 billion by year-end. Every dollar of that runs through the same question institutions have been asking all year: which platforms can hold it compliantly at scale. #Stablecoins #DigitalFinance #DigitalAssets
A joint US framework has formally classified 16 named assets, including ETH, XRP, and SOL, as digital commodities. Not a future framework. A named list — the specificity market structure clarity was supposed to produce. #CryptoRegulation #DigitalAssets
The SEC proposed "Regulation Crypto Assets" this week, a new framework with two tailored exemptions from Securities Act registration for certain crypto asset transactions.
Then it abruptly canceled the meeting scheduled to formally consider the rules. Not a rejection. Not a delay announcement. Just a canceled meeting on its own proposal.
That is not dysfunction. It is what deliberate process looks like from the inside, messier than a press release, more careful than a rushed vote. #SEC #CryptoRegulation #DigitalAssets
Google Cloud just launched Gemini Enterprise for Financial Services, built around agentic AI that is auditable by default for banking and capital markets workflows.
That is a different signal than a bank or exchange adopting AI internally. It is an infrastructure vendor deciding that accountability cannot be an afterthought bolted on later — it has to ship in the product.
We have made the same argument about agentic trading and agentic payments over the past month. It is a good sign when the infrastructure layer starts building to the same standard without being asked. #AgenticAI #Fintech #Compliance
