Antiphospholipid antibodies positive 2X & >12 wks apart. Already had rec for aspirin to reduce risk of colon cancer recurrence. It's treatment for APS too so.. 1 aspirin on 10/3. New record walk speed next day, though many variables.. night walk, different path during heatwave.

When I put degrees in my Twitter bio, I stopped getting comments such as, you can't argue 1+1=2 or anything because you're anonymous. However, mind you, I'm still anonymous and you can't verify my degrees. Now I'm imagining putting MCAT scores on my forehead when I see doctors.

To "level with" me means she's not afraid that I can read research papers and figure out biology, send her references that she can consider in her own problem solving. And doesn't need to say/do something illogical to prove they're smarter than a patient saying something logical

I don't mind when people are smarter than me. I like it, admire them, & learn from them. But like I don't mind people asking my age because I look young.. is that because I'm actually as smart or smarter. Or perhaps I don't mind people asking my age even if I didn't look young.

Can't stand all the Teslas around here. You vote with your money. Silicon Valley stopped being entrepreneurial ~15 yrs ago. Sadly it's the same people who in dot-com days would've been in their garages since day 1 of the pandemic inventing air cleaning systems to replace masks.
Dunno... I live in Silicon Valley and wealthy people who want to show off and be cool bought Teslas. The people who actually wanted to do it for the environment bought Priuses 10-20 years ago. The progressive professors I know bike to work.

Well, I haven't met a doctor or nurse at UCSF that doesn't look at me like an alien if I mention Long COVID (except one specially tasked for "mystery illnesses" (except they are only trying to test & find anything other than ME/CFS after saying it's most likely actually ME/CFS)).
“The tissue samples from long COVID patients revealed severe muscle damage, a disturbed immune response, and a buildup of microclots.” The evidence of #LongCovid is all there. Doctors who continue to ignore it should no longer be working in medicine. npr.org/sections/health-shot…

Hey so if you have long covid or ME, or suspect you do, and your doctor suggests you take up graded exercise as a key part of therapy, please direct them to the Nature Communications paper published 4th Jan on Post exercise malaise. Here's the NPR write up npr.org/sections/health-shot…

Yes I want to know if it was COVID that led to cardiac arrest & death of famed Vietnamese chef. But we've been systematically relegated to Bob & Jetelina & co's people-don't-need-to-know if it was COVID. So don't mind if they die. Are the Slanted Door bao in my freezer the last
Random Tweets. I ordered from @GoodEggs on Christmas Eve at 11am & got my delivery at 3pm. Handy if you have ME/CFS & going to Whole Foods 2 blocks away is sometimes too much. Though $5 / medium sized bao from Slanted Door & needs to be steamed + delivery & subscriptions fees.

The number of people in the circle of my mom's best friends is ~1-3. xitter.cf/CureCFS/status/1756652…
My mom's best friend almost died during the winter holidays from "colitis" where she was in the hospital for 4 days after lots of bloody diarrhea & lost 1/3 of her blood. Her daughter was texting "You're going to make it!" She described having a NDE. No mention of COVID testing.

If she weren't my realtor or the timing were different, I might never have heard of this (probable severe COVID & PASC) in the closest 2nd degree connection possible. So 99% of the time, you aren't going to hear of your friends' brain fog, anosmia, heart condition, pain, or PEM.

In the last few months, 3 people in my circles in their 50s to early 60s died from cancers acquired after the COVID pandemic began, in the last 2 yrs actually, after herd immunifying began. I know <100 people in this age range. It would be very easy not to hear about them though.

I haven't taken a Twitter hiatus because COVID is less of an issue. Rather, COVID brain damage has become a full time job from each person that appears to have it. E.g. my ex-landlord turned every micro-interaction into multi-dimensional abuse including severe water damage & mold

13) UPDATE—“Combining nasal and throat specimens increased sensitivity for HCW- and self-collected specimens by 21.4 and 15.5 percentage points, respectively, compared with a single nasal specimen” “Adding a throat specimen to the standard practice of collecting a single nasal specimen could improve sensitivity for rapid antigen testing in health care and home-based settings.” Finally, validation… the arc of the moral universe is long, but it does bend. Now when will FDA admit they were wrong / apologize for having their head in the sand? jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…

There's an increasingly frequent trend in my neighborhood of usually white women or men accelerating into crosswalks when they see people in it. I'm thinking about my immense Asian female privilege as I respond by making huge hand gestures that they're loco & saying things loudly
Today, I was rear-ended by a white man in a pickup truck. I got out of my car to check the damage but he stayed in his and just looked at me. I considered asking for his insurance info but I chose not to bc I’m Black woman who was alone in small town that is only 4% Black (1/

My neighborhood is around 60% Asian, 30% white, 5% black and brown, & 5% mixed. Among white, it's actually 5% middle eastern & 5% European immigrant, so maybe 20% white American. Why now... is there a group that needs to prove their right to go wherever they want and be violent?

I just had a Weber test localize to the right for SNHL. Although I will never know if this privileged violent boy in upscale neighborhood caused or added to it since I had hearing loss from probable COVID in Dec 2019, I still have the blocked sensation since his scream in my ear.

Working today due to an overflow of patients and here is a very important case: 👉 49-year-old old previously healthy man who ends up with #NSTEMI. Cardiac cath is negative, he is discharged on a beta blocker only. 👉 Following this event, he developed daily symptoms of headache, paresthesia, presyncope, dyspnea and fatigue. 👉 I asked him if he had Covid in the weeks preceding this: sure enough he did - about 12 weeks before the heart attack. 👉 I reviewed all medical records, including from a university hospital in the South ➡️ no mention of #COVID_19 or post-Covid conditions anywhere. 👉 Treatment of this patient did not include any management of #LongCovid and post-Covid cardiovascular conditions. What do we learn from this case? 🫀 Cardiovascular, autonomic and neurologic manifestations of #Covid are widespread and are often not recognized or coded as such ➡️ will not be tracked in the electronic medical records. 🧠 People are having heart attacks, strokes and blood clots at a young age, which are not counted as post-Covid sequelae ➡️ thus, the real incidence and prevalence of Long Covid and post-Covid conditions are largely underestimated. 💊 Patients are not started on aspirin because "there is no blockage in the arteries," but many patients are in hypercoagulable state (his d-dimer on admission was high) ➡️ at least a daily aspirin might be beneficial ‼️ #LongCovid is a major public health issue that is under-reported, under-counted, under-recognized and under-treated. #MedTwitter #CardioTwitter #NeuroTwitter

Emory professor and philosophy department chair who was arrested wasn’t even there to protest - she was concerned about student safety and wanted to simply observe what was going on. She denies the university president’s claim it was outside agitators - she was with Emory students - and says police swarmed and became violent with zero cause.
Emory professor Nicole McAfee, chair of the university's philosophy department, was among those arrested amid the Atlanta school's crackdown on student protesters. Democracy Now! spoke to Professor McAfee about the protests, which she says were "peaceful" until police arrived.
