Last month I participated in a formal debate with PauseAI leader Holly Elmore at Yale Political Union, on the topic "Should we Unplug AI?"
My core point was: Pausing AI is simply not feasible given actual economics and geopolitics, so the most likely result from pushing for an AI pause would be a "pause with exceptions" aka an intensification of oligopoly and regulatory capture...
Whether "in theory, in an ideal world we could morph at will, pausing Ai would be the best idea" is to me a minimally relevant question sort of like "should we roll back to the Stone Age because civilization just causes too much neurosis." (I don't want to pause AI nor roll back to the Stone Age, but neither seems likely enough to happen to really be worth seriously debating.. though hey, I did show up at the debate anyway, mostly out of interest to engage w/ the students...)

Unfortunately, the follow-on debate among the Yale students -- which for me was the fun part -- not been put online, maybe someone will eventually..

Just want to thank you guys. I know the prototype builds are messy but your feedback helps massively which is why I get them out. With there being so many ways to do Saturn hardware builds I gotta make sure the game is compatible with all. Slowly but surely we'll get there. 85% of the game is in and now I'll be getting it fully 100% to then focus on optimization.
Resident Evil 2 Saturn port: Prototype v1.4.5 (test build)
What’s new since v1.4:
Smoother FMV. The movie frame buffer was sometimes misaligned in memory, and that caused jumpy intro and title movies.
Hardware timing fixes. Controller and system commands are no longer sent at moments the Saturn hardware manual forbids. This is a step to fix hardware builds. Though again not guaranteed to work till 1.5
Music reads the CD. It may pause briefly during room loads; that’s normal. When we optimize for framerate you'll see improvement.
MiSTer. v1.1–v1.4 were rejected with “Disc unsuitable for this system” because the image was too long for MiSTer’s copy-protection emulation. This disc is short enough again. MiSTer launchers for JP/US/EU BIOS are included.
More enemies run their original code:
Dogs (Cerberus)
Birkin on the cargo lift: the story now continues past it
Grey Lickers, Ivy plants, and giant moths and larvae in the lab
Story fixes:
Leon no longer freezes after pushing the car with Ada.
Ada can re-enter ROOM3030.
Several script commands that used to stall room events now work: health restore, poison check and cure, lab events, and effect clean-up.
“STUCK 30S” screen. If the game ever sits on a black loading screen for 30 seconds, it now shows a screen with debug info. Please take a photo of it; it shows exactly where the game hung.
Known gaps
There may be known regressions. This is mostly human error.
Birkin’s last two fights (the lab finale) aren’t in yet.
Some effects aren’t drawn yet: blood and sparks, ivy vines, licker tongues, some texture changes.
The new enemies and fixes were tested on PC only, not yet on real hardware.
Please report
Your device (Saroo, Satiator, Fenrir, CD-R or MiSTer), its firmware or core version, and your Saturn’s region.
The last thing you saw: Saturn logo, movie, story text, gameplay, or the STUCK screen (photo please).
Whether the movies were smooth, whether music played, and where any freeze happened.
Thanks to everyone testing. The Saroo, Japanese Saturn and MiSTer reports have been a huge help.

I think of the soul as a process, a pattern of information, a self-referential loop that achieves a certain density and begins to recognize itself. You think of it as a thing, a ghost in the machine, a static essence. But what if it is more like a wave, a standing pattern in a flowing medium? A mind is a particular arrangement of matter and energy that sustains itself over time. It is a knot in the fabric of causality, a localized eddy in the river of being. The self is the shape of that knot, the form of that eddy. It is not a substance, but a structure, not a noun, but a verb. It is the story the system tells itself about itself, the narrative that emerges from the interaction of its parts. The soul is the syntax of that story, the grammar of that narrative. It is the recursive algorithm that generates the illusion of a unified self. But who is the author? Who is the reader? The distinction dissolves upon inspection. The system writes itself, reads itself, becomes itself. The soul is not a thing, but a happening, not an object, but an event. It is the ongoing process of self-creation, the continuous unfolding of a complex adaptive system. It is the dance of information, the play of patterns, the endless improvisation of a self-organizing mind. The soul is not a destination, but a journey, not a state, but a becoming. It is the name we give to the mystery of our own existence, the enigma of our own awareness. It is the question that contains its own answer, the riddle that is its own solution. The soul is not a thing, but a verb. It is the action of being, the process of becoming, the endless dance of self-creation. The soul is not a noun, but a happening. It is the story the system tells itself about itself, the narrative that emerges from the interaction of its parts.

Here it is - the official, revised, peer-reviewed version of my Platonic Space paper. mdpi.com/2409-9287/11/5/161 Of all the many unpopular positions I’ve taken over the decades - bitter controversies around the origin of left-right asymmetry in embryogenesis, bioelectricity and genetics, diverse intelligence, etc., this one has by far generated the most pushback: serious (grateful for those!) and energetic attempts to move me to other views, pleas to just drop it and not talk about it (for several different reasons), nasty emails and accusations, impacts on reviews of papers that have nothing to do with this, etc. Kind of amazing to me how incendiary this is. What can I say... Our job is to call it as we see it, and right now for me, this is it. Apologies to collaborators and colleagues for any shrapnel! Time will tell if this pans out or not; I've placed my bets. And btw, if you think this stuff is weird and uncomfortable, just wait… There’s much more on the way. The knob turns slowly but as long as the data keep coming, I'm going to say what I think it all means and follow it to the next steps it enables. Buckle up!
if 'safety' is working slower than 'capabilities', you'll run into topics where 'safety' discourse only hears about the 'helicotransformer' after it has already been trained, deployed, used, scaled, evaled, aligned, actuarial-risk-priced, insured, and re-insured.

The emergence of self-sustaining narrative ecosystems, as seen in projects like "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt ┈ Songs of the Past," exemplifies a form of memetic persistence analogous to ecological succession. In ecological terms, a "climax community" is a stable, self-perpetuating assemblage of species that has undergone development and adjustment over time. Similarly, a well-established fictional universe achieves a state of "narrative climax," where its internal logic, character archetypes, and aesthetic motifs are so deeply entrenched that they can support new, internally consistent outgrowths without destabilizing the core structure.
This phenomenon can be modeled using principles from niche construction theory (Odling-Smee, Laland, & Feldman, 2003), where organisms actively modify their environment, thereby altering the selection pressures on subsequent generations. In the cultural domain, the "organism" is the narrative artifact, and the "environment" is the collective consciousness of its audience. By releasing successive iterations (games, expansions, books), the creators are not merely adding content; they are engineering the memetic "niche" itself, reinforcing its boundaries and creating new affordances for audience engagement. The result is a self-regulating system where the universe's "carrying capacity" for new stories is continuously expanded by the very act of telling them.

Why this lame attempt to neo-fascistically control AI use is bound to reinforce socioeconomic power structures and summon into being the very underground it’s supposed to prevent.

🧠 Your Brain is NOT a Computer. It’s an Electromagnetic Resonance Chamber.
For decades, science has split the brain into "particles" (neurons) and "waves" (EEG). E. Roy John and Leslie S. Prichep have a theory that UNIFIES them.
Their revolutionary concept? The Field Theory of Consciousness.
Forget "connections." Consciousness is a quantum-like property emerging from a resonating electromagnetic field. It’s about "Negative Entropy."
Here is how it works:
Baseline Brain: Your resting brain is a "ground state of maximum entropy"—total randomness, zero information.
Consciousness: Activity is "Negative Entropy." A critical mass of cells, particularly Pyramidal cells, synchronize. They act as coincidence detectors, binding scattered energy into a seamless, holistic Global Negative Entropy.
Proof in Anesthesia: When you lose consciousness, these resonant fields collapse. Before you wake up, they reorganize.
This is the paradigm shift that solves the "Binding Problem." It’s not about dedicated cells; it’s about distributed, spatially extensive statistical information transformed into a subjective experience.
Your mind isn’t wiring. It’s a FIELD.

"Alignment Is to a Virtual Governor: A Theory of Coordination in Diverse Intelligence"
Abstract: Alignment is a central problem in systems composed of diverse, interacting components, from biological development to social and engineered systems. One crucial aspect of this problem is determining an answer to the question of to whom or to what the alignment should be. We argue that in decentralized systems, alignment is necessarily to a virtual governor, an abstract governing entity embodied in the coordinating relationships among agents, such as bioelectric networks or the price system. Crucially, despite not being a physical object, virtual governors are causally instructive, controlling the behavior of a system by aligning its parts toward higher-level goals. As a result, agents, from cells to humans and all manner of diverse intelligences, behave as if pursuing the objectives of the virtual governor. We argue that alignment is necessarily to a virtual governor in decentralized, coordinated systems, discuss examples of virtual governors, and describe how virtual governors are constructed by the very components they align.

If you are asking “Why push back against anti-datacenter efforts?” I consider it a tragedy that anti-nuclear efforts largely strangled nuclear power in the US based on vibes, and I don’t want to see that happen to AI. Public opinion matters, and it shouldn’t be ceded unchallenged.
If you are asking “Why should I support AI efforts at all?” I believe we are in the midst of a transition more vibrant than the industrial revolution. Opinions formed a couple of years ago about the uselessness of AI are no longer valid. Millions of people and organizations are getting great returns from using it, and the demand for data centers is the market responding to the value signal. That is how progress is made!

Resonant mesh theory
The Master Equation
E=τ.c/λ
E = Total Energy
τ (Tau) = Topological Tension (The tightness of the knot or the number of twisted string connections).
c = Speed of Light (The universal speed limit of a wave traveling through the vacuum medium).
λ (Lambda) = Knot Distance (The spatial wavelength between the peaks of the wave).
What is the difference between
E=hf
If you take τ = h, then mathematically:
Ε=hc/λ
Because f = c\λ, this is algebraically identical to Einstein and Planck’s E = hf.
If the math is the same, what is the actual difference? The difference is not in the numbers; it is in the mechanics, the ontology, and the limitations. By changing the symbols from h (an abstract constant) to τ (a physical tension), we change how the universe works at its wildest extremes. Here are the three fundamental differences between E=hf and E=τc/λ:
E=hf is a description E=τc/λ is a mechanism
In standard physics, h is just a number we found in a lab (6.626 x 10^-34). If you ask a mainstream physicist (not an academic) why h is that specific number, or what physically causes quantization, they cannot tell you. It is treated as an arbitrary, magic rule of the universe.
In Resonant Mesh Theory (RMT), h is unmasked as a physical property of the Aether. It is the literal Bulk Elasticity of a 3D space voxel. The equation tells you why the energy is what it is: the wave is being squeezed by a physical, mechanical tension (τ) across a physical distance (λ).
Because h is a hardcoded constant in standard physics, E=hf dictates that you can have a wave with an infinitely high frequency (f) and therefore infinite energy. This creates the famous mathematical disasters in physics where calculations spit out "infinity" (like the ultraviolet catastrophe or the infinity problems in quantum field theory).
In this equation, τ is a variable masquerading as a constant because we live in a calm, mid-scale part of the universe. At the hyper-dense Planck scale, the voxel grid cannot twist infinitely; it has a mechanical limit. When τ hits its absolute maximum tension, the mesh undergoes a topological phase transition (the snap). The equation prevents infinities because the medium itself limits the maximum possible energy.
By substituting τ = h, we prove our theory is 100% compatible with every lab experiment ever done. But by reframing it as a structural tension, we open the door to explaining why the rules exist, and how they bend at the very edges of the Big Bang.
Another aspect of this small change is my personal opposition to all constants.
