Brandon Johnson says the new contracting order protects taxpayers.
Chicago has an $85 million budget gap. His fix is refinancing old debt and leftover federal COVID money. Companies already avoid Chicago. A lot of the people who can leave already have.
Contractors have 60 days to disclose whether they made more than $500,000 working for other governments or law enforcement, including ICE. They have to flag civil rights complaints. The biggest firms have to turn over the makeup of their leadership and boards. A new task force can then propose more rules.
If the goal was protecting taxpayers, the test would be simple: Can you do the job? What does it cost? Will you still be here next year? Instead, Chicago added another reason for a competent firm to take the work elsewhere.

This former Nashville teacher of the year is publicly explaining to her board of Education why she has turned in her resignation.
She is tired of dealing with parents who come in and demand that their children be given passing grades when they don’t deserve them, and haven’t earned them.
She is tired of dealing with children that are disciplinary problems that have parents that refuse to deal with it, and they demand that the school overlook it to the detriment of every other student.
And she’s tired of not having her superiors have her back.
This is why if you can, you need to homeschool.
Public schools are turning out a large group of children that will not be able to function, and prosper in society, but rather they will be an economic drag on everyone else
