Ukrainian language is very different from russian I remember when I first came to the US, people used to ask me if I spoke russian. They were asking if Ukrainian was a dialect of russian. And it would take me so much time to explain that russians don’t understand our language at all. The lexical similarity between Ukrainian and russian languages is only 62%. It’s like difference between French and Portuguese. The languages close to Ukrainian in order of similarity: Belarusian (84%), Slovak (70%), Polish (64%), and only then russian. Today, the world sees the stark difference between Ukrainians and russians. I hope that never again will somebody ask me if Ukrainian language is the same as russian.

Don’t ask Ukraine to stop defending itself. Ask Russia to stop attacking Ukraine.

Too few realize this, but Russia occupies less Ukrainian territory today than in March 2022. Control dropped from about 28% of Ukraine down to 20%. That is a clear failure by any metric
