Three days ago we predicted Lewis Hamilton would get a penalty at the Hungarian Grand Prix. That prophecy came true. Here’s another prophecy 🔮✨: IT’S RACE DAY! Welcome to the Hungarian Grand Prix. Another front-row start taken away from Lewis. Another Sunday where the eight-time World Champion will have to fight for everything. Ahead of Hamilton we have Norris, Leclerc, Piastri and Verstappen. Five lights… And it’s lights out! Hamilton launches brilliantly. Around the outside of Verstappen at Turn 1. Around the outside again through Turn 2. Piastri has nowhere to go. P5 becomes P3 before the opening sector is over. But Leclerc won’t be easy, he has something to prove. The Ferraris circulate nose to tail for lap after lap until, on Lap 28, the pressure finally forces the smallest mistake. A snap of oversteer out of the final corner compromises Leclerc’s exit, and Hamilton needs no second invitation. He draws alongside into Turn 1, they battle wheel-to-wheel through the opening corners, and Lewis powers ahead on the exit of Turn 2. By Turn 3, he’s through. P2. Now only Lando Norris remains. The McLaren leads, but Hamilton keeps coming. Five seconds. Three. One. The Ferrari fills Norris’ mirrors. With 5 laps to go, Norris defends Turn 1. Hamilton expects it. He sacrifices the entry, hooks up Turn 2 perfectly and carries unbelievable speed around the outside into Turn 3. Orange and red. Side by side. The crowd is on its feet. Hamilton edges ahead. P1!! The radio crackles. 🎧 | Santi: “Beautiful, Lewis. That’s P1.” 🎧 | Lewis: “Copy, anything from the FIA.” 🎧 | Santi: “Negative, Derek is not stewarding. Let’s bring it home.” From there, Hamilton is flawless. Behind Hamilton the battle continues, Verstappen smells an opportunity. He sends it down the inside of Leclerc into Turn 1, but the dive bomb move never quite comes together. Light contact sends Leclerc into a spin, while Verstappen damages his front wing and tumbles down the order after an extra pit stop. The fight for the podium is over for both. Two corners remain for Lewis. The chequered flag falls for the eight-time World Champion. The crowd erupts! The Hungaroring has always belonged to Lewis Hamilton. On a day that began with a penalty, he made it his again, earned and not gifted. Hamilton claiming a record-extending ninth victory in Budapest. Lewis Hamilton wins the Hungarian Grand Prix.
