Europe’s core isn’t just rich. It’s connected. This is the Blue Banana in motion, the dense corridor where people, capital, industry and infrastructure compound on each other.

Last year, I was on NYU CDS PhD admissions committee. The final question I asked candidates during interviews was: "What if AI becomes better at research than you?" Many answers focused on how humans could stay competitive. My favorite ones were about the joy of doing research.
Some reflections on AI in math. I found it helpful to simply list out the various parts of what a mathematician does, why math is valuable, and where the funding comes from. From there, what happens if AI gets more capable? youtu.be/LKrwhjOI8Nc

We're working on a new math font. It's a bit controversial, because people are used to classic serif math fonts. Ours is sans-serif, built from the monospace fonts in code editors

Giving every PhD student a Codex Pro subscription should be as standard as giving them a laptop. At least that's what i do. I compare my students’ weekly progress with what I could get done in a week when I started my PhD. It’s barely comparable. But that also changes what we should train students to do. Execution is getting cheaper. Choosing the right problem and knowing whether you’ve actually solved it is still hard and the value of PhD lies. Interesting times.
