Missouri Couple Accused of Taking Turns Shooting Each Other While Wearing Bulletproof Vests
Authorities in Rolla, Missouri, arrested John Wayne Mason, 36, and his wife, Emily Mason, 35, after deputies said the couple admitted taking turns firing handguns at each other while wearing bulletproof vests.
The investigation began shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday, when neighbors reported hearing several shots behind the couple’s rented home near Old Route 66.
According to a probable-cause statement, deputies found two damaged vests, shell casings and a handgun in the backyard.
Both were treated at a local hospital for bruising and minor injuries before being booked into the Phelps County Jail.
Investigators said the pair told deputies they believed the vests would protect them, but officials said the alleged stunt could have easily turned deadly.
