Amartya and Raghuram studied Economy from the Same Sources, for the exact Same Hours.
In the exam, Amartya skipped the Economy questions. Raghuram attempted every single one.
The difference was this: 👇
Raghuram understood what the question was testing. Amartya was only familiar with the topic's name.
Consider the PYQ on Budget-Deficit question.
Rather than asking "What is fiscal deficit?", it provided budget numbers, challenging aspirants to test the actual relationships between them.
The topic is the same. The thinking asked of you is not.
If you do not know how the deficits connect, there is nothing to calculate with.
5 micro shifts to bridge that gap 👇🏻
1. 𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲
When reading the newspaper, don’t just underline facts, trace who gains, who pays, and what happens next.
2. 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀
Stop thinking about how your notes look. Start making your notes sharpen how you think.
3. 𝗠𝗮𝗽 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴
Read first to understand the parts, then draw a mind map to see how they connect.
4. 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀
Don’t memorize the answer; master the chain behind it so you can rebuild it anywhere.
5. 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀
Don’t store topics under syllabus headings—wire them together as causes and consequences.
Economy rewards the Mind that sees Connections.
Tina and Kanishk are close friends and government officers.
One day, Tina discovers that Kanishk is taking bribes. Reporting him could ruin their friendship and his career, but staying silent would allow corruption to continue.
What Tina did will blow your mind. 👇🏼
It’s a classic case of Integrity vs Loyalty.
1. Loyalty vs Integrity
• Loyalty: Tina risks losing a close friend and damaging Kanishk’s career.
• Integrity: Silence would allow the misuse of public office to continue.
2. Steps Tina should take
• Verify the bribery and preserve relevant records she can lawfully access.
• Avoid alerting Kanishk if it could lead to evidence being destroyed.
• Report the evidence to the competent vigilance authority, maintaining confidentiality.
• Cooperate with the inquiry, allowing Kanishk a fair hearing without shielding him from accountability.
“India isn't developed, it's developing, so it needs patriots, not parasites”
Great line to quote in your essays, folks! :)
I think what is actually needed is for Indian people to actually give a damn about their cities and fellow citizens.
Anybody using the "I pay taxes, I shouldn't have to do anything" excuse should go live in another country. India isn't developed, it's developing, so it needs patriots, not parasites. If this triggers you, it means you're part of the problem.
If you're not happy with the footpath (or a pothole, or anything else which is broken), fix it, or call someone to fix it, and don't give up until it's fixed. Be relentless. Be vocal. Be creative. Make it your mission to get that one thing fixed. Look at what Virendra (@Virendra0698) did by just calling the right people and being respectful (but also persistent). He and Arun Pai (@arunpaiblrwalks) along with the help of GBA and some wonderful volunteers turned an unofficial garbage dump into a pristine, beautiful footpath through sheer force of will.

•𝗖𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗕𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: 10 lakh cruise passengers by FY2029.
•FY26: 212 cruise vessels, 4.63 lakh passengers.
•Only around 10 per cent international: 48,514 passengers, 46 foreign vessel calls.
Here is the catch.👇
•Fingerprints are still taken at the counter.
•Sometimes while the ship is still en route, so a few rooms cannot be sold.
So 𝗖𝗼𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁 is testing a different way, as a pilot project.
•Smart cameras verify identity in real time.
•Travellers walk past, no waiting to scan passports.
For now, only for cruise travellers.
A wider rollout depends on how it goes.
