#CallingAllVillains My favorite scene has to be when the Big Bad is sitting there, listening to everyone make fun of him. Then the camera slowly zooms in on his face as Mr. WPNZ delivers the line “That old coot will realize his judgment’s as bad as his hearing.” And honestly, that moment makes the scene so much better. The fact that he’s been listening to EVERYTHING the entire time is hilarious. But there’s another detail that makes this scene even more interesting: he’s completely alone. It makes you wonder about his past. Was he once surrounded by loyal followers? Did he command an entire crew in his prime? What happened to them? Did they abandon him, fall in battle, or is there something far more sinister behind his solitude? And why is he so determined to force people into teams? I’ve started to wonder whether he made some terrible judgments in his own past and is now trying to prevent others from making the same mistakes. Perhaps he once had a team of his own and lost everything because of a decision he made. Maybe his actions aren’t simply about control. Maybe they’re rooted in regret, loss, or a past failure he hasn’t been able to move beyond. There’s something fascinating about a villain who gives you just enough clues to question his history without actually revealing it. Sometimes the most interesting thing about a villain isn’t what they’re doing now, but what happened in their past to make them this way.
