Renaud Partners Deep Dive: Melee Markets Why Melee? At Renaud Partners, our belief is simple: the best crypto products won’t look like finance apps. They’ll look like culture. @meleemarkets fits that vision. It takes a trillion-dollar idea, fixes the biggest flaws, and makes it fun and viral from day one. We supported Melee early, helping the team think about GTM and distribution. Melee is the first prediction market that feels alive. And we’re proud to have been there from the beginning. Let’s dive in. Melee Markets: Degen Different Prediction markets have been one of crypto’s most obvious ideas since day one. The promise is simple: turn collective knowledge into real-time odds about the future. They had their breakout moment during the US election. For weeks, odds from Polymarket were everywhere: Shared on Twitter, cited in news articles, even debated live on television. For the first time, millions saw that markets could be a sharper predictor of reality than polls or pundits. But outside headline elections and a handful of macro events, prediction markets still mostly serve political junkies and traders. They haven’t yet broken into everyday culture. What’s broken with prediction markets today Orderbook markets only work with constant activity, and outside of major events, spreads widen and smaller markets collapse. The scope is narrow, with platforms focusing almost exclusively on politics, macro, and crypto bets. Meanwhile, culture moves at internet speed: Memes, sports debates, and viral moments come and go untouched. The experience isn’t helping either. Onboarding often means KYC checks or confusing token flows, and payouts can take too long to feel rewarding. And because most platforms are built like sterile exchanges, they carry no cultural energy. Screenshots of odds should be flooding timelines, but they rarely are, because the products themselves don’t inspire sharing. Even Polymarket, the most successful player in the category, shows the gap. It has processed billions in lifetime volume and peaked at more than $200 million in a single month, but activity still flattens outside election cycles. The idea is powerful. The execution hasn’t yet made it mainstream. Why We’re Bullish on Prediction Markets Despite the shortcomings, the fundamentals are too powerful to ignore. Prediction markets are better than bookmakers because they collapse spreads to reflect real demand. They have infinite surface area, because anyone can launch a market about anything. Whether it’s the Super Bowl finals outcome, the opening weekend box office of a blockbuster, or the number of likes a meme will get. They’re viral by nature. A screenshot of Trump at 65% odds gets shared faster than most headlines. With the right product design, every market becomes its own distribution engine. And they challenge media itself. News organizations try to predict what might happen. Prediction markets already do that, in real time, without bias. As more people start to trust markets over headlines, the role of media shifts from prediction to simply reporting what markets already know. There’s also something deeper: markets with skin in the game create stronger signals. Unlike polls, prediction markets force people to back their beliefs with real money. That creates higher trust and makes people check back, argue, share, and engage. Done right, prediction markets are conversations that spread. Enter Melee Melee was built on a simple but important question: What if prediction markets were as fun as meme tokens? The result is a completely new approach that feels like Pumpfun meets Polymarket. It combines the depth of prediction markets with the energy and virality of memecoins. Here’s what makes Melee different: > Permissionless: Anyone can launch a market on anything. > Multiple outcomes: Markets can support up to 32 outcomes instead of just yes/no. An NBA finals market can break down into exact series results, and a meme market can use ranges of likes or retweets. > Bonding curves: Each outcome has its own curve. Early buyers get cheaper shares and greater upside, rewarding those who are fast and right. > Up-only for winners: If your outcome wins, you always get your stake back. Profits come from the losing pools, meaning no bagholders. > Opinion markets: Rewards scale if your prediction of how others will vote is accurate. Being both right and close to consensus pays more. > Whole-market trades: You can buy every outcome early and profit as the pool grows, turning market growth itself into a trade. > Arbitrage opportunities: Since Melee’s odds move with volume rather than market makers, they can diverge from Polymarket. That opens room for hedging and cross-platform plays. The result is a product where markets feel like culture. Instead of sterile bets, they become games, memes, and conversation starters and these mechanics change the game: > Liquidity is built-in so there’s no need for market makers. > Markets are richer which means more outcomes and more nuance. > Being early pays and leads to viral loops. > Culture drives usage and markets become memes. All of this makes Melee more than a financial focused prediction market, it becomes entertainment. Testing the Experience Melee is still in closed beta, but we’ve tested it ourselves. The product feels smooth, fast, and most importantly fun. Participating in markets is smooth, outcomes are easy to follow, and the bonding curve dynamics make participation exciting. It’s the first time prediction markets have felt like something people will want to share with friends. Congrats if you made it this far. Everyone who likes and retweets this post will have the chance to win 1 of 3 exclusive spots in the Melee Family & Friends group, where you’ll get early access to test the product.rly.
