On Episode 74 of Going Rogue with Lara Logan, former IRS Special Agent Joseph Banister describes what he calls a “1040A scam.”
Banister explains that IRS procedures can generate notices based on a scenario where it appears a taxpayer filed a 1040A and requested the IRS to calculate their tax even if they never filed anything.
He points to evidence gathered by Paymon Mottahedeh of Freedom Law School including hundreds of letters from individuals across the country reporting similar experiences over the years.
He argues these internal coding systems can alter the legal basis under which the IRS operates effectively portraying circumstances that do not exist.
Lara challenges him directly, pressing on the risks, consequences, and what this could mean for everyday Americans.
