Thread 🧵 1/ NEW REPORT: Billions of advertising auctions determine in real time which ads we see on websites and in apps every day. Our latest research shows how the same data fueling this advertising ecosystem is being used to profile millions of users and silently infect targets with zero-click mercenary spyware, a novel attack technique we call "Adfection.” Read the report: citizenlab.ca/research/how-d…

Now this could happen to any hardware manufacturer, but i don't think on the evidence that is true. There have been confirmed tampered devices bought from resellers in 3 additional countries / stores including europe: Germany. their choice, but seems like ledger are downplaying.

In the most unexpected turn of events @seyong has reached out through a mutual friend And to my surprise, he showed genuine remorse and was transparent about the reality behind the numbers he shared Of the 20+ investigations I’ve conducted over the years, this is the first time something like this has happened “He just did that because he knows what would’ve followed…” It would be naive to think my reputation had nothing to do with his decision to reach out. But even if it did, that's not necessarily a bad thing If people are more inclined to own their mistakes because they know they'll be held accountable, I consider that progress He acknowledged his mistake, took responsibility, and offered to share internal data with me to back up his claims He did the right thing to do in this situation As far as I’m concerned, the matter is closed I’m moving on
…you’re lucky I am busy

Ledger Nano X received from @0xJohannes_ (who bought it from MediaMarkt in Germany) confirmed bugged (he sent another one to @Ledger). This is not news and action has already been taken, the next question will be to understand how this ended in Germany...

Let’s tax everyone to death because only the 0.1% richest can escape is the fiscal dogma in Europe summarised in one sentence. Wealth taxes, exit taxes, regulatory-overreach. Who will connect this to the catastrophic innovation and entrepreneurial gap these policies created?
New paper on whether wealth taxation discourages investment and drives business owners abroad. Looking at Norwegian reforms (2021-2024), it finds: migration responses are concentrated among the top 0.1% of the wealth distribution; "at most 100 individuals left due to the reforms"

Supply chain attack is a risk known to the industry almost from day 1. Back in ~2011 we would buy computers by going to the shop, choosing a model/box at random and not letting go of it (or at least keeping it in sight at all time).

Ledger has stopped sales in Thailand pending investigation and while this sounds like you may be in the affected period & location, I haven't seen any report of affected devices from Thailand. I would recommend moving funds temporarily at least (a Nano X is a cheap alternative that is easy to open to verify, if you can source one where you are). Alternatively you can use warm air (dryer?) and a sharp tool to take the plastic off the back, that will tell you instantly if there's a spy in your ledger (Stax spy ledgers have an extra antenna added there). Be extremely careful when using sharp objects, and do not do that if you do not have a backup of your seed written down somewhere. xitter.cf/Ledger/status/21101293…
Incident Update - Oct 13th, 2026 Ledger is asking resellers and distributors in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong to suspend sales of Ledger devices while the investigation is ongoing. This includes taking products off the shelves. Specifically the countries are: Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. To be clear, as the investigation continues, the only confirmed incidents remain contained to Southeast Asia. We have not verified a drain linked to a device bought elsewhere. The investigation is ongoing to determine who tampered with these devices and where in the distribution chain it happened. The Ledger Donjon will analyze the devices it receives, and Ledger Customer Support will provide guidance to users who reach out through our official channel: support.ledger.com. We understand this is concerning, and will continue to provide updates from the Ledger Donjon as the investigation progresses. Stay vigilant. We have no indication that Ledger's infrastructure, systems or services or direct sales channel have been compromised.

Sometimes it's the person not being right for the job, but more broadly the weirder the situation gets, the harder it is to be the one to stand up there and try to explain why things aren't weird.

Guys I am THIS close to convincing him to get a camera crew to document his day2day work Imagine how cool it would be to get regular content from the inside of frontier AI research, especially AI safety Not another fucking 78 tweet thread about how important AI safety is or some D-tier podcast full of people theorizing about it, but literally watching someone at the frontier actually DO the work Would be great for literally everyone involved The fact that we have people like this willing to share their work publicly and the algorithm buries them is fucking criminal
