🚨HUGE: Ethereum Foundation and Open Anonymity Project launch zkAPI on mainnet, letting users pay for AI WITHOUT linking their requests to the wallet that paid.
Based on a design co-authored by Vitalik Buterin, zkAPI lets users prepay with ETH or USDC and use zero-knowledge proofs to access AI inference and other metered APIs.
Providers can verify payment without tracing each request back to the payer, reducing the need to tie API usage to a financial identity.

This was in most of the 1960s IBM training manuals.
It stands today as it stood in the mainframe era.
Replace computer with AI and this is the state of things.

Scammers found a way to make people send them $2M on their own without sending them a phishing link.
They created an entire fake GIWA Mainnet.
Then used the real GIWA Chain ID: 9134 for the fake network.
So when people added the network to their wallets, everything looked legitimate.
Then they created a fake bridge.
People connected their own wallets.
Sent their own ETH.
And approved the transactions themselves.
Except the ETH wasn't actually being bridged to GIWA.
It was being sent straight to addresses controlled by the scammers.
By the time people realized the entire "GIWA Mainnet" they were using was fake, roughly $2M had already been lost.
They literally created a fake blockchain using the real Chain ID and got people to bridge their money into it themselves.
You've got to be extremely careful this days.

NY Penn station en route to debate with PauseAI folks at Yale Political Union... looks about like it did when I came thru here in my teens in the early 80s ... you still have to sit on the (now cleaner) floor and watch the big screen (now electronic) to see what track your train will be on... I suspect post Singularity this will be a sort of theme park and they will bring back the mechanical sign for old times sake...

Dear SingularityNET Community,
On September 19, an unauthorized party gained access to part of our cloud infrastructure and used it to mint tokens and withdraw assets through our bridge infrastructure. Treasury and exchange wallets were not affected, and FET held in your own wallet or on an exchange was not impacted. We revoked the compromised access and deactivated the affected bridges and conversion contracts, and our team and security partners responded as soon as the activity was detected.
Actions Taken:
- We revoked the identified compromised access
- Deactivated the bridges and conversion contracts
- Paused AGIX and NTX transfers on Ethereum
- Tracing and monitoring are ongoing, and we are working with exchanges and security partners
Current Status:
- FET: FET was withdrawn from the token converter. FET has been secured, and its minting controls were not affected. No action is required from token holders; your own wallets are not at risk from this incident.
- AGIX: Our team is working on a secure and compliant way for eligible holders to transfer their tokens, and we will share details as they are confirmed.
- NTX, WMTX, CGV: Unauthorized tokens were minted. We recognize the disruption this has caused these communities and their project teams, and we are in direct contact with each of them.
Next steps:
- Independent security review: We have been working closely with our security partners since the incident began. The bridges will stay deactivated until an independent security review confirms they are safe to restore, and we will share additional findings as they become available.
- AGIX holders: AGIX migration is paused. We are working on a legitimate, verified path forward for eligible holders, in a way that is legally sound, and we will share details as they are confirmed.
- Other affected tokens: We are working with each project team on next steps. Each team will communicate about its own token through its official channels.
- Exchanges and tracing: Monitoring continues, and we are sharing data with exchanges and partners who need it.
- Law enforcement: We are working with law enforcement in the relevant jurisdictions and will provide updates when available.
We are committed to working with every affected community and project team, and we will keep updating you as facts are confirmed. All updates will come only through our official channels. Do not trust information from any other source.
This was a coordinated, multi-stage attack with a high degree of automation. Our systems are audited regularly and we follow industry security standards, but attacks like this are accelerating and becoming more sophisticated. We encourage every team in this space to review their external cloud critical infrastructure now.

We are aware of an exploit involving the FET token migration and bridge architecture, as well as other tokens within this infrastructure. Our team responded immediately and is working with security partners.
An unauthorized party withdrew approximately $1.56M in FET from the converter. Treasury and Exchange wallets are not affected, and FET held in your own wallet or on an exchange is not impacted. Holders do not need to take any action.
We will publish a full report of what happened and how once the investigation is complete, and we will share verified updates here as they become available.

This is why Anthropic and OpenAI are panicking and saying "AI is going to kill everyone."
They had the market captured before. Now they don't.
Normal people & enterprise companies don't need cracked-out, borderline-AGI models like Astra and Fable for their daily work. It's too expensive.
The market shifted towards using open weights models that offer 95% of the same capability at 1-2% of the price.
These guys totally underestimated their competition, IPOs are now cooked, and they're absolutely panicking. So they're trying to create a regulatory cartel and have all of their competition banned. That's all it comes down to.
Looks like today may be a record day for token volume % of open models on Vercel AI Gateway:
🟦 Open 78.4% 🟨 Closed 21.6%
While spend 💲 usually tells a different story, #3 and #4 today are Moonshot AI & DeepSeek. Adding Z.ai, their combined spend surpasses OpenAI (#2).
(Do note that's the spend for inference of the model across providers (mostly in the US), not revenue going directly to the open weight labs.)

Yeah I do not want these EA weirdos overseeing the entire AI industry. Sorry. Nope.
Since EAs are in the news, people really should watch this debate between @lymanstoneky and an EA on "shrimp welfare," moderated by Peter Singer, the Great Godfather of EA. Not just because "shrimp welfare" is a ridiculous concept but because he DESTROYS them.
lymanstone.substack.com/p/i-…
He also DESTROYS EA Diana Fleischman on eugenics. Yes, they're also eugenicists. Of course they are. (I realize some people around here like "eugenics" but most people still find eugenics repellent. Also he shows those people clearly don't think very much about their own ideas! Fleischman is one of the most prominent EA eugenicists and she clearly doesn't know much about the topic.)

What do we know about Jacob Coxon, the Anthropic “whistleblower”?
He became concerned about AGI doom in high school (in the town of Oxford btw - see my previous posts) after reading Nick Bostrom’s book Superintelligence.
Attended Cambridge, during which time he went to an alignment conference at age 19. He then became a fellow at Newspeak (yes, really) House, which received EA funding and hosted Jeremy Corbyn’s Digital Democracy Manifesto launch.
In 2022 he received a scholarship from a Moskovitz-funded org. Moskovitz is one of the leading EA donors, and an early Anthropic investor.
The 80,000 Hours project (also funded indirectly by Moskovitz) explicitly encourages EAs to infiltrate frontier labs to influence them from the inside.
None of this, in itself, proves that he is wrong about AI safety. What it does indicate is that he was already sold on the idea as a teenager, before he worked in the labs, before GPT-1 came out. I think good epistemic practice means we should therefore take him no more seriously than any other doomer. His experience in the labs didn’t convince him AI is dangerous. He already believed that even before the current AI paradigm became dominant, and probably chose his career based on this belief. If you’re convinced by Bostrom’s arguments yourself, that’s fine. But Coxon adds precisely zero additional weight to them.

Effective Altruism is not the first totalizing ideology with pretensions to a superior scientific basis to capture huge numbers of smart but clueless intellectuals. One hundred or so years ago, many of the best and brightest in our society were absolutely convinced that the most important thing they could do for humanity was to aid or undertake Marxist revolutions.
As I have said many times in the past, it takes a certain amount of intelligence to convince yourself of a completely crazy idea and of the importance of devoting your life to it. For a certain sort of mind, it’s almost impossible to turn away, and it’s all too easy to persuade yourself of absurdities with castles of logic built in the air that would not convince normal folk, who just notice that the emperor isn’t wearing any clothes and go about their business.
Marxism also comes with its own internal language, with extremely verbose secular scriptures, with detailed explanations from its highly intelligent but self-lobotomizing adherents about why it makes almost inevitable sense and why opposing it demonstrates that you simply must not understand it. It is also an ideology rooted in utilitarianism, also has an eschatological and utopian vision, and also is also incredibly dangerous.
Many Marxists are, of course, perfectly nice people as individuals. So are many Effective Altruists. In both cases, they really are just trying to help the world, even if their idea about how to help the world is horrifying and will cause incredible damage if it isn’t vigorously resisted. I fully believe that the bulk of the rank-and-file mean well, though I am not always convinced about the leadership.
However, it is also the case that society cannot turn a blind eye towards a fifth column attempting to subvert our civilization.
The Effective Altruists whom Anthropic would have oversee and regulate AI would have people imprisoned for 20 years just for using an open-source AI model. No surprise to see the likes of Bernie Sanders champion this movement.
Replying to @DrTechlash
▪️Using an open-source model = 20 years in jail.
▪️All known AI researchers = under Government surveillance.
Another PauseAI volunteer, Max Winga, who's also a research engineer at Conjecture, presents more "creative" ideas on how to save us all from the AI apocalypse.
Trump and Xi need to mutually decide to "stop AI progress" and then:
1. "Using any open-source model is a huge crime - downloading it, having it in your possession on your hard drive, certainly running the model, distributing the model - make these significant crimes. Any of these things, 20 years in jail. Or even harsher penalties."
2. "You could stop all research. You could scrub the internet of the papers, and you can take all the people who were working on the models, and, at most draconian worse, 'we are saving the world, we will make some sacrifices,' you assign a spy or a government watch person to every single one of these people and ensure that they aren't designing AI models."
"Ultimately, when the fate of all of humanity is at stake, these are extremely small sacrifices to make."
