MIGRANT WHO SEXUALLY ASSAULTED 'EXTREMELY VULNERABLE' WOMAN WALKS. FREE AFTER TIME ON REMAND A migrant who entered the UK illegally across the Channel sexually assaulted an “extremely vulnerable” young woman with learning difficulties after following her into a London park. Aron Hadsh, 27, from Eritrea, restrained the 19-year-old victim before groping her breasts and sexually touching her during the attack in Fulham. The young woman had been sent by her mother to collect fruit from a food bank in West London when she encountered Hadsh, who was staying in accommodation near Heathrow. Hadsh followed her to a park, where he subjected her to the sexual assault for several minutes. The terrified victim eventually managed to escape and later told how Hadsh laughed as she fled. Five weeks after the attack, she recognised him while out shopping. Members of the public intervened and police were called, leading to Hadsh’s arrest. He was subsequently convicted of one count of sexual assault following a trial in May but was cleared of kidnapping. Hadsh was sentenced to 14 months in prison and handed a five-year restraining order. However, because he had already spent almost a year in custody awaiting the outcome of the case, he was released without having to serve further time behind bars. Sentencing him, Judge Alastair Rolf Hammerton described the victim as “extremely vulnerable” and said Hadsh presented a “high risk of serious harm to the public” as well as a “high risk of sexual reoffending”. The court heard Hadsh had experienced difficulties while in custody because of language barriers. But the judge said he had shown no remorse for the attack and continued to deny responsibility. Hadsh dismissed his legal representatives part-way through the trial and appeared at his sentencing hearing without a lawyer. In a powerful victim impact statement read to the court, the young woman described how the attack had left her frightened and increasingly isolated. She said: “All my life it has been hard to make friends, and this has put me back in my own bubble. “I was scared to see him again, in case he would kill me, because he was laughing after he ran off and sexually assaulted me.” No deportation order was made by the court as part of the sentence. Hadsh was released from court following the hearing.
