Being afraid of intimacy doesn’t give you the right to create closeness with someone and then punish them for responding to it. You can’t build emotional intimacy, encourage someone to open up, become part of their everyday life, enjoy being the person they turn to for comfort, and then act shocked when they become attached to you. You’re allowed to be scared. They’re allowed to be affected by the closeness you created.
