At Full Council tonight in Croydon + we're discussing the Mayor's Business Plan. The plan lacks KPIs & the Tory Mayor + Deputy Mayor telling us they are not needed as residents are telling them that things are improving. Outcomes measured by Anecdote is not a credible plan. – at Croydon, London

Today' report on COVID's impact on residents in Care Home in the UK is welcomed. It was obvious, very early on in the epidemic, that things were going tragically wrong in UK's care homes, and that the Government's response was woefully inadequate. – at Croydon, London
The facts are we have a fragmented, predominantly private sector run, social care system, that is unable to respond effectively if Central govt fails to provide guidance and equipment to the myriad care home owners and operators.

Council estates still suffer from deep-seated negative stereotypes, but a new wave of council housing is embracing innovative, imaginative and attractive design. Congratulations to @marydugganarc and @RUFFARCHITECTS on winning this year's RIBA Stirling Prize for the Lion Green Road scheme in Croydon. More like this please 👇🏻

Last night at Full Council 🌹 We paid tribute to Councillor Annie Gallop, welcomed Councillor Molly Hartill to her new role representing Myatt’s Fields, raised concerns about ASB in Brixton and stood with our vital RNLI workers. Lots to do - and we’re cracking on!

I’ve not seen in the flesh the @RIBA #StirlingPrize 2026 winner: Lion Green Road, in Croydon, by Mary Duggan Architects, & maybe I should, but I’m not completely convinced, though I’d like to be, as I’ve a lot of time for the architects!… youtu.be/3cz2hdrG_Pw?is=INwW… via @YouTube

Single Transferable Vote provides both a direct representation of local communities and reasonable level of proportionality. Good work by @JoshHousden. Would like to see a version of this for 2026 Council Elections. – at Kensington, London

I am delighted to hear that the Labour group on Bedford Borough Council is pushing for an end to Bedford's directly elected mayor and the restoration of the traditional leader-Cabinet model. Directly elected mayors have gone against our parliamentary traditions, dividing the mandate between a council's executive and legislature. I saw this farcical situation first-hand when I lived in Bedford, where we had a Liberal Democrat mayor but his party was the 3rd largest on the council. A total mess. Bedford is not the first council to see the folly in directly elected mayors, and it will not be the last..
