WE ARE RECRUITING
Looking for an experienced agronomist to join our fabulous team in East Anglia. Helping continue the support to the great potato growers we work with, the Greenvale supply chains, and our extensive and expanding field trial operations.
Great to have placed a wireworm trial on a wireworm site, but 178 holes on a single tuber is perhaps a bit too good #wireworm @ProduceSolution
191 #potato trial plots lifted last week between the showers; 33 plots graded and defect assessed. Not a bad effort from the @ProduceSolution team. Great to see some positive yields in our #PotatoCystNematode (#PCN) tolerance and resistance screening trial!
#CommonwealthPotatoCollection @JamesHuttonInst; an incredible resource and treasure trove of R genes 🧬 a lot of work goes into identifying these genes and then working them into varieties such as those in our development programme and portfolio @greenvaleAP @Greenvale_Seed

Another season nearly out and some major highlights to reflect on. Great to see the cotils of Jersey in March, such a stunning Island. Then there’s selection day in Scotland. My favourite work day of the year. Have we found gold amongst the crates of potatoes!? 🥔 Hope so!

It’s that time of the year when we select our new varieties bred by JHI. Some very promising crosses including this Tyson x Karelia beauty! @JamesHuttonInst
#IndianMustard #Biofumigation of #PotatoCystNematode (#PCN). Single pass system; hammer flail with spader and smear roll.
#Biofumigation of #PotatoCystNematode (#PCN) in South Staffs today. Hammer tine flail with Imants Spader. Forward speed 2.5kph, incorporation depth c.350mm. Crop c.60t ha fresh weight. Soil moisture slightly sub optimal at c.25% field capacity, but overall, an excellent job!

Hearing from @Crop_Trials looking at how varieties perform +/- nematicide in his stratified PCN resistance and tolerance trial.
Thanks to Nigel Adams for hosting and sharing his Regen steps in potatoes

Thank you Chris and Amber 👏❤️ It’s so great to see farmers up and down the country going above and beyond to help their community
If you or someone you know is going above and beyond to help feed the nation, please let us know so that we can spread your positivity 🙌
If you store potatoes, best have a look at this article and video regarding clean-up of CIPC treated stores. There are options for sprout suppression going forwards; MH, ethylene, mint oil. CIPC residue is the thing to think about. ahdb.org.uk/news/how-to-redu…

An understanding of the natural decline of #nematodes is likely to become more and more important for crop protection going forwards. Prof Urwin and Co. do great research and are a pleasure to work with. This is a good opportunity for prospective nematologists @AHDB_Potatoes
Two PhD opportunities are available in our group. If you're keen to discover how cyst nematodes can survive dormant for >20 years, then take a look at "Live long & prosper": findaphd.com/phds/project/li… with @chriswestlab.
