In this week's Boots in the Field Report, Ken Ferrie discusses corn yields running 20–40 bushels below last year, soybean yields down 5–10 bushels, and early results from the 2026 research plots. #BIFR podomatic.com/podcasts/cropt…
The 2026 plot harvest is underway. It will be interesting to dissect this year’s data with the variety of weather events and rainfall.
Yield reports for corn are slow to come in and most reports are under last year’s numbers. Wind, water, and disease damage have left field averages lower than expected and leading to low test weight. This and more in this week's #BIFR podomatic.com/podcasts/cropt…
Ken talks scouting for harvest order, making accurate yield estimates, and getting ready for a long harvest in this week’s Boots In The Field Report. podomatic.com/podcasts/cropt…
We have a block nicknamed Hail Mary Alley. We let it go to let the weeds get established and then tried different management practices in sections to show which ones are most effective and which ones won’t even slow them down. The guys recorded this after our event in July.
Use this time to evaluate field losses and damage, establish a realistic budget framework, and set clear expectations heading into Harvest ’26.
Seeing some standability issues in fields hit with hail in late June. Hail caused stalk damage which can become an entry point for stalk rots.
In this week’s Boots In The Field Report, Ken Ferrie walks through evaluations to start doing now after the recent crazy weather to be more prepared for harvest this fall. #BIFR podomatic.com/podcasts/cropt…

In 2008 the night before the first Corn College, winds snapped the poles of the 40X100 tent. EVERYONE (attendees, sponsors, Farm Journal and CTC staff) helped adjust and the show went on as if nothing happened. It was then we knew it is a different kind of people coming to this.
Where it all started, Charlene Finck with Farm Journal and Ken Ferrie dreamed up Corn College and took the plunge in 2008. 19 years later, elements of the events have changed throughout the years, but the heart of wanting to help farmers improve their operations has never wavered
