This, pretty much, captures the current situation in & around the Strait of #Hormuz.
A few facts on the ground:
-Iran is shooting at ships transiting the strait and is hitting quite a few (how many, it is hard to say, with the UKMTO admitting many attacks are going unreported and cannot be verified).
-a handful of these ships are stopped or disabled by Iranian fire; two have sunk; the rest continue their transits.
-the US-supported escort system has had considerable success increasing traffic through the strait; flows from the region as a whole are close to prewar levels, but oscillate on a week-to-week basis.
-the recovering flows have not brought down front month or prompt prices, owing to 1) continued high demand, 2) very high shipping costs related to the attacks, 3) lack of confidence in reliability of supply, incentivizing buyers to spend a premium on prompt barrels.
-while there is mounting evidence to suggest escalation is likely, diplomacy continues, with each side communicating to the other via mediators.
-both the US (watching flows) and Iran (watching prices) have a reason to hold to their position and resist offering concessions. As a result, a deal appears very unlikely (though that could change quickly, if either side shifts their position).

SCOOP: Some of Zelensky's advisers, and even a few European officials, have called for him to get more aggressive in striking Russian airports.
There are signs his cautious view on such attacks is shifting, especially as Trump starts giving Russia cover.

As I said ON THE AIR - the diesel "deal" is about 3 hours of global fuel demand, or about 2 days of US demand.
And that's if it happens. Russia doesn't have much diesel to export.
Non event unless it turns into something larger (i.e. bigger deal, longer deal, etc)

You Cannot Defeat Geography.
There is one lesson we need to keep repeating: You cannot defeat geography.
Iran sits along the Strait of Hormuz, and as long as that geographic reality remains unchanged, and there is little reason to believe it will, Tehran will retain a significant ability to threaten tanker traffic.
You don't need sophisticated surveillance systems to spot oil tankers moving through the Strait.
U.S. military operations may have significantly degraded Iran's ability to detect and track vessels, but degrading that capability is not the same as eliminating Iran's ability to attack them.
The bottom line is simple: As long as Iran maintains its geographic position along the Strait of Hormuz, it will retain the ability to threaten maritime traffic. Military superiority cannot change that fundamental reality.

Iran has seemingly shifted to a semi-permanent war footing, with the regime mobilizing the hardline base and shoring up defenses in preparation for possible US escalation.
Still, the leadership likely won't opt to land the first blow. The moves are one part deterrence, one part war planning (as @therealBehnamBT astutely observes at the close of the piece). wsj.com/world/middle-east/ir…

IEA: “While global diesel prices have eased from the all-time highs of more than $200/bbl reached in September, benchmarks remain nearly double the price of crude oil and their pre-crisis levels. Record diesel prices are already having broad economic consequences by raising the cost of goods and impacting real incomes, economic activity, and inflation.”
