It's frustrating that not a single US transit agency cares about electrification. The MBTA won't even run electric trains on existing electrified tracks!

Yes it's totally a good thing that you can get a majority with a 4% lead and 29% of the vote... I love FPtP
Still a PQ majority with the regionals

This is real, and it's offensive horseshit. Battery trains have a minor, a very minor role to play as a transition technology, but in the foothills of a seismic energy crisis, swapping one form of energy dependency for another is crap politics and worse planning.
Have you seen this? facebook.com/share/1LNM6gAmh… @transportgovuk only seems to have posted it on Facebook... Wonder why. @NoelDolphin

US public transit advocates: Don't just envy Europe. Start by envying Canada. Find the Canadian city most comparable to yours and see what the Canadians do in a similar situation, with similar land use and economic history.
Replying to @humantransit
i always come back to this statistic about ridership in EDMONTON of all places. canada’s transit is completely on another level to 99% of us cities.

What politician will run on one of the richest cities in the world not accepting this crap? Do Torontonians not deserve better than a . . . fence? How will we compete as a city when we can't install the equivalent of an elevator door?

Brutal lack of context from @robertbenzie on @FrontBurnerCBC recently saying "maybe in Canada we don't have the tradition of rail travel you have in Europe or even in China." Come on. These were rail routes in 1955. Politicians (especially Mulroney and Chretien) destroyed it.

Albany could literally be the hub of HSR lines that connect NYC, Boston, Montreal, Toronto and further west to Cleveland, Cincy, Chicago. Seems like a total economic no-brainer for upstate.
Even more insane is that we don't have a high speed train line connecting NYC to Montreal considering it's a straight line, 95% of it is straight through New York, and Albany's smack dab in the middle

The Endangered Species Act was passed in 1973. The median Baby Boomer was 18. It was passed from pressure by Silent Gen voters, by Geatest Gen legislators. The ~doubling of the National Parks system occurred in the 60-70s. Again, same situation. The Baby Boomers keep being credited for things they ~enjoyed~ the benefits of. Not things they caused to occur. Or paid for. The defining legacy of their control of Congress has been a chronic underproduction of housing, mass financialization, an inexorable rise in inequality, and the most dysfunctional legislative sessions in American history.
everyone talks about these people as if they’re selfish and like, yes, probably. but that’s not how they think of themselves! they think they are DEFENDING what is cool and special. you have to remember when shitting on baby boomers that these are *literally* the same people who doubled the parks system, fought for endangered species, etc. while I personally do not think we should treat the marina Safeway the same as the Bolinas Lagoon, the bolinas lagoon is really special and basically exists today because of exactly these people doing exactly these things

High speed rail from Montreal to Toronto really is not a huge lift. We have lots of potential corridors, clear routes into the cities, and obvious demand and potential demand with significantly expanding urban rail systems and densifying downtowns - its painfully obvious.

Also ignoring that it was built for less than adding 5 stations to the blue line - it is more than 10x longer and adds 5x more stations to the network - and these are full metro stations.
le REM déborde pis le monde traite ça comme un échec. un train aux 4 minutes qui est plein, c’est la preuve qu’il fallait le construire il y a 20 ans. la file sur le quai, c’est trente ans de demande refoulée qui sort en même temps

Honored to be a part of @build_beaut latest video about transit construction costs! Sharath puts it best: “We keep treating cost blowouts as inevitabilities instead of looking to the rest of the world out of misguided notions of exceptionalism.” Watch now! Link below. – at Bresso, Lombardia
