Tennessee's Department of Corrections Commissioner is stepping down in light of the botched Christa Pike execution. Frank Strada will resign this month.
Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee is pausing all executions for the remainder of 2026 following the failed execution of Christa Pike.
Lee is also calling for a third-party review, according to the The Tennessean.

Unbelieveable. Officials were unable to carry out the execution of Christa Gail Pike, witnesses said, after the lethal injection was administered. Pike appeared to receive 2 doses of pentobarbital, and she was still awake 40 minutes after. Pike is now en route to the hosptial.
Christa Pike’s execution for the 1995 murder of Colleen Slemmer is back on after a SCOTUS decision just overturned a last-minute ruling by a lower court to stop it. Execution was scheduled for 10am today, but was delayed last minute. Will now happen by midnight.
