Happy Fourth of July! As we mark the 250th anniversary, let's not forget the many individuals with Caribbean roots who contributed to the progress. From founding father Alexander Hamilton, born in Nevis, and Henry Christophe, Haiti's first and only king, who fought in the American Revolutionary War during the 1779 Battle of Savannah, to modern trailblazers like Shirley Chisholm, the daughter of Barbadian and Guyanese immigrants, and Colin Powell, whose parents were Jamaican immigrants, the Caribbean has helped shaped America's story.
