ALT A portion of one of the twin solid rocket boosters for the Artemis III Space Launch System rocket can be seen inside of the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Sept. 1, 2026. The perspective of the image is looking up from near the base of the booster. The booster is white, tube-shaped, and has black block-shaped markings near the base. The booster extends upward through several platforms of the VAB. Credit: NASA/Cory S Huston

ALT A region of space filled with bright stars and clouds of gas. In the center, the densest clouds form the shape of a chest with its lid open. The chest appears to glow from within. At its base it breaks apart into long pillars of thick gas. Many of the gas clouds in the background are dark orange globules, while others form large, pale hazes. A few brightly shining stars lie in the foreground, the biggest and brightest in front of the chest’s lid. Image credit: ESA/Webb, NASA & CSA, M. Reiter; Acknowledgement: M. H. Özsaraç
Artemis II Moon Mission Complete!

ALT The line between night and day, or the terminator, is at the top of this image of the Moon. As the Artemis II crew described, the terminator is \"anything but a straight line.\" The Moon's surface is heavily cratered at the top, but the number of craters tapers off as you continue downward. ALT The small, bright spot in the center of the image is the crater that the Artemis II crew have proposed as Carroll, after Commander Reid Wiseman\u2019s late wife. About 3.5 miles across (5.6 km in diameter), the proposed Carroll crater is on the nearside of the lunar surface on the western edge and would be visible from Earth with powerful telescopes. ALT One-third of Earth peeking through the window of the Orion capsule. The planet is a dreamy pale blue, swirling with white clouds and reflected sunlight. Although Earth only fills a fraction of the image it is the brightest object in the image by far. The capsule window is surrounded by a thick frame held in place with bolts, reminiscent of a heavy duty airplane window. It is dark in the capsule, but the outlines of straps and various components of the capsule are visible. Brighter white components are visible in the upper right corner. Credit: NASA/Reid Weisman

ALT Kennedy Space Center's massive Vehicle Assembly Building is seen from across a body of water; in the foreground, covering the bottom-left corner of the image, is a large bush with red berries. NASA's Artemis II rocket can be seen just emerging from the building, beneath a blue, partly cloudy sky. Credit: NASA/Kim Shiflett

ALT The sun sets behind NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft as they stand fully assembled atop the mobile launcher at Launch Pad 39B at NASA\u2019s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The sky glows with warm shades of orange and pink, silhouetting the towering rocket and its solid rocket boosters against the fading light. NASA/Sam Lott
