Sweet merciful heaven, will someone tell Brett Ratner to put his dick back in his pants?
I like all these guys to varying degrees but Lowden is the only one who fits the role completely on paper. Turner might be able to pull it off but it would hinge completely on what Villeneuve's vision is for the new movie and what comes after.
The JAMES BOND shortlist is here, with six actors reportedly set to screen-test in September to play the next 007 (via @PageSix)
Jack Barton, Jacob Elordi, Paul Mescal, Callum Turner, Jack Lowden and Harris Dickinson

the first time I saw this, my professor more or less suggested that this was an afterthought in comparison to Killer of Sheep. then you watch it and it's nearly as revolutionary and inventive in its choices as KoS. see it at all costs if you haven't yet and if you have.
Watch the trailer for the new 4K restoration of Charles Burnett's MY BROTHER'S WEDDING. Set in South Central LA in the early 1980s, Burnett’s follow-up to Killer of Sheep is a tragicomic classic of New Black Cinema.
Opens 9/18 at @FilmForumNYC before touring select cities: knlor.com/mybrotherswedding4…

Happy birthday to the king.
“I don’t think a story actually needs to find a conclusion or to force an answer. Any filmmaker who thinks that needs to happen is full of themselves, to even think that they can present an answer.” — Kiyoshi Kurosawa
A joy to speak with this master filmmaker for @letterboxd.

‘The Drama’ is a romance devoid of depth and a comedy without an emotional anchor. But most galling, it places a Black woman at the center of a very American controversy and does little more than wink. vulture.com/article/the-dram…

Scout is a genius artist. Help him get to where he needs to be!
the legend, the goat, my friend Scout Tafoya is back to making movies—this time he’s graduating from 0 budget to ultra-low budget, but after some investment fell through last minute he needs some help to make sure the shoot can still go forward next month gofundme.com/f/help-scout-ta…
been sick for a few days, so I went through the Magic Mike trilogy again. love all of them, but the unquestionable best part is Ginuwine's Pony will be in my head for at least seven months straight after sickness passes. everything passes...except Pony.

As his new film, Yes!, opens this week, I sat down with Nadav Lapid to talk about the failings of Israeli artists, the rot at the center of Tel Aviv and the necessity of painting the perpetrators of a genocide exactly as they are. It’s a heavy one.

Well, that was certainly a lot. Some very moving tributes to Reiner and Keaton and hey, they remembered to put in Frederick Wiseman, maybe the greatest filmmaker of all time. Udo, too. Very nice, very nice....BUT THEY FUCKING FORGOT PETER GOD DAMN GREENE! - FARINA'D!!!
James Foley, another talented filmmaker who bounced around between genres from the 90s into the 10s, including a few really good ones like Glengarry Glen Ross, At Close Range, and After Dark , My Sweet - FARINA'D!!
