Today marks 37 years since an injury to Steve Ogrizovic meant that David Speedie went in goal for Coventry at The Den.
And like every great goalkeeper, Speedie instinctively knew when a shot was going wide…
Was always frustrating when a team mess up an attempted quick free kick and you had to let them have another go due to a rolling ball
LAW CHANGES 2026/27
A player takes a free kick while the ball is moving and attempts to make a short pass to a team-mate. However, the pass is weak and inaccurate, so the opposing team intercepts the ball and gains possession.
What should the #referee decide?

Guidance from The FA on hard pitches. Check as early as possible,. If you feel it's unsafe then don't play.

"To the young girl who simply loved refereeing, we did it. Thank you, football."
Assistant referee Sian Massey-Ellis MBE has announced her retirement from officiating after a remarkable career, to take up the role of Senior Manager - Women Referees with The FA.
Since reaching the Premier League in 2010, at the time only the second female to ever do so, Massey-Ellis has officiated on over 150 top-flight matches. Alongside a plethora of domestic milestones, including five Women's FA Cup finals and becoming the first female appointed to both the FA Community Shield and Men’s FA Cup final, she also has an impressive international resume. She has been involved in three UEFA Women’s Champions League finals, four UEFA Women's EUROs, two FIFA Women’s World Cups and she was also the first English woman appointed to a men's European fixture.

Congratulations to Sian Massey-Ellis on a magnificent career.
Started on the local leagues, a member of our RA, she worked her way to the top of the game.
Good luck in your next role
@RefsAssociation
Exceptionally dry weather recently and many pitches are struggling.
Look for cracks, bare patches, divots etc. if you feel a pitch is unsafe then don't play on it, liaise with clubs and make a decision as early as possible.
Player safety is paramount
Position of feet when the ball is released is what's relevant. When he releases the ball his right foot is in the air, even though he drags it on the floor afterwards it's still a foul throw
Not an easy spot real time

While we’re on the topic will someone PLEASE tell me the proper bottoms to wear on this machine.
- leggings show too much.
- shorts slide up & show too much.
- sweats cover everything but are way too hot during cardio.
Help.

Our next meeting is tonight.
Monday 18th May, 7.30 PM @ Jaguar Cars Sports & Social Club, CV5.
AGM to kick off. Presentation from FA Cup Final assistant Larry 'The Book' Watson from around 8 PM
Would this work? At grassroots would need to revert to old style positioning of being close to the goalline to monitor goal area encroachment.
Our next meeting is tonight.
Monday 27th April, 7.30 PM @ Jaguar Cars Sports & Social Club, CV5
All welcome
Make sure the pitch and surroundings are safe for all participants.
These goals need to be removed. If there's no dedicated recess then then have them placed outside the cage.
.The assistant referee, who managed to avoid the net on the 5 a side goal for 85 minutes, suddenly forgets about it and trips himself up 😂
@Fcbootle v @MossleyHill_FC tonight @WestCheshireLge
