Thanks again, everyone, for your feedback on this project!
I have completed the processing. I enhanced the core color a bit & tweaked star reduction & some over-sharpening areas.

I've been playing around processing some old data of M27 in SHO.
This image was processed in Astronomy Mag. I tried using some new methods.
Which do you like better?

They call Sh2-173 the Phantom of the Opera Nebula. I see a cosmic puppy! 🐶✨
15h 46m of SHO + RGB with my AP155. Clouds, smoke, heavy dew—and a face worth the effort.
Mask or puppy?

It looks a bit like the Tulip Nebula—but this is SH2-88, a rarely imaged stellar nursery in Vulpecula.
12.4 hrs of SHO data + RGB stars, revealing diffuse, compact & ultracompact regions of massive-star formation.

Thrilled to share that Amateur Astronomy Magazine featured two of my images in its Fall 2026 issue: Hickson 61 (“The Box”) and Sh2-140 (“The Hidden Nebula”). It’s an honor to see these deep-sky wonders in print! 🔭✨

Very cool news: my SH2-140 image was selected as Astronomy Magazine’s Picture of the Day.
The Hidden Nebula is a faint Cepheus target: the glowing edge of a dark star-forming cloud about 2,500–3,000 light-years away.

Summer heat can be rough on observatory gear, especially the little fanless PCs running telescope piers.
I added daytime-only fans & heat sinks to my MeLE Quieter 4C PCs, & disable them at night/during imaging.

My image of M24, the Small Sagittarius Star Cloud, is included in the newly released 30th Anniversary Ed. of Circumstellar Habitable Zones, a NASA Ames conference volume w/ an intro by Carl Sagan.
A real honor.

NGC 7129, the Cosmic Rosebud Nebula, is live on Cosgrove’s Cosmos.
~14 hrs of LRGB on the AP155 reveal blue reflection nebulosity, dark dust, young stars, & nearby NGC 7142 in the same rich field.

NGC 7008, the Fetus Nebula, was a real small-target challenge.
Only about 86 arcseconds across, it pushed my SCA260, local skies, & processing pretty hard. Final image: HOO+RGB stars, 10.5 hrs.

Spectral response matters in astrophotography.
But how do your target, sky glow, light pollution, filters, sensor QE, & OSC Bayer response combine to create your image data?
My Astro Spectral Explorer makes that hidden chain visible:

Not every deep-sky target is large and dramatic.
Hickson 61, “The Box,” is tiny, faint, distant, and easy to overlook — but that is exactly what makes it fascinating.
