CORNERS leverages the power of innovative science and engaged partnerships to promote safer, healthier, more equitable neighborhoods youtube.com/watch?v=maiIZNog…
Our @AVPapachristos joined a national cohort of interdisciplinary scholars convened by @CouncilonCJ to answer a consequential question: What explains the recent US homicide decline?
64% of the experts identified CVI expansion as a top contributing factor to the homicide decline.
OUT TODAY: The U.S. has seen a dramatic, unexpected shift in homicide. After surging in 2020, the rate fell sharply from 2022-2026 and is now at its lowest level since at least 1900.
Why has homicide dropped so much, so fast, and in so many places? ⤵️

Community violence intervention (CVI) is “making a big contribution to public safety in Chicago,” @AVPapachristos told @WBEZ about research by @CornersResearch showing shootings dropped in parts of the city where anti-violence workers mediate conflicts. “The fact that people are carrying guns less, going to prison less, that’s a huge win for everybody.”
