Today made it clear to me. There are storm chasers, and storm chaser chasers. If you have to rely on following another chaser all day. Hear me when I say this. STAY YOUR ASS AT HOME. #wxtwitter

BREAKING: A new report confirms that Oklahoma was the lightning capital of the U.S. in 2025 – not Florida! The data comes from AEM, an environmental monitoring/consulting group. Oklahoma averaged 73 flashes per square mile. Kay County was also the most lightning-prone county in the U.S., with 123.4 flashes per square mile. Oklahoma saw lots of MCSs, or mesoscale convective systems – large-scale sprawling thunderstorm complexes and squall lines. Because they're horizontally expansive, they have extensive electric fields that produce prolific lightning. After Oklahoma, Florida came in second place. Then Louisiana, and then Texas – in terms of density. Texas, meanwhile, had about 13 million strikes. That's the greatest *tally*, but not the greatest *density*.

Former News 9 meteorologist Gary England – the Severe Weather God of Oklahoma – has passed away at the age of 85. He was a pioneer in his field, and guided untold numbers of Oklahomans – this one included – through countless weather emergencies over the decades. RIP to a legend.

A BIG pattern change means severe storms and tornadoes will be likely this weekend into early next week! Sat will be a conditional risk with some "cap" in place, but Sun and Mon look much more volatile. SHARE this and PREPARE as we get closer to the weekend! - Aaron #OKWX @kfor

HEADS UP SATURDAY NIGHT! Strong/severe storms will impact northern and central #Oklahoma including #OKC. A dryline and cold front will intersect in N. OK prompting explosive storm development after 7PM Sat. Very large hail is the main risk along w/ a couple tornadoes. @kfor #okwx

Pictures of the tornadoes that were produced by a long track cyclic supercell between Byers, TX and Waurika, OK very close to the Red River crossing. Big multiple vortex bowl at the beginning then had two simultaneous tornadoes as it passed Red River. #txwx #okwx #wxtwitter
